Computer-animated films are sharply observed visual comedy grafted over hilarious voice-over.
Then they run out of ideas. All the bee jokes are front-loaded and the film can’t survive either on it’s script.
The writing team are keen not to get in too deep and stick to the surface gags.
A bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice; making honey.
On a special trip outside the hive, Barry’s life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey.

Plot Outline
Barry B. Benson, a bee who has just graduated from college, is disillusioned at his lone career choice: making honey. On a special trip outside the hive, Barry’s life is saved by Vanessa, a florist in New York City. As their relationship blossoms, he discovers humans actually eat honey, and subsequently decides to sue us.
Goofs:
- Factual errors: Barry B. Benson says he’s tired of making honey, but males bees don’t contribute to the honey-making process at all. All such work is done by females. Male bees are drones, and just hang around the hive.
- Factual errors: A lightning strike to the airplane disables a good number of its systems during the flight to the west coast. Jet airliners, however, are designed to withstand a lightning strike. Planes like this are struck by lightning on a regular basis, and it never does any serious damage to the plane or its systems.
- Factual errors: The captain on the jet airliner is wearing the insignia of a co-pilot/first officer.
- Factual errors: Male bees don’t have stingers, only females do (it’s their reproduction organ as well as a self-defense method).
- Factual errors: Male mosquitoes do not drink blood, only female mosquitoes do (and only as a protein source for their eggs, not a mean of sustenance for themselves.)
- Continuity: At one point all the trees and plants have withered because of a lack of pollination. But when all the bees fly out to help guide in the plane, the tree in front of the hive is sporting big green leaves.
- Continuity: In the supermarket Barry paints stripes on his cheeks and paints his bottom completely black to ‘get to the bottom of things’. Only when he goes outside to follow the truck, his bottom is black and yellow again and the stripes are gone.
