Death Race

31 Aug

Set in an “Escape From New York”-style dystopic prison-culture (that sounds suspiciously like current American society), slaughter happens, stuff blows up, and the weak are culled like bunnies caught in the headlights of gas-sucking American muscle cars.

Jason Statham does his standard tough-guy job as the scowling Frankenstein, Joan Allen plays a ball-busting warden (perhaps a bit in the mold of Louise Fletcher’s Nurse Ratched), and Ian McShane of “Deadwood” has a solid cameo as the prison-wise mechanic, Coach.

Even Machine Gun Joe gets a new incarnation in the form of Tyrese Gibson, who thankfully is nothing like Stallone’s blustering Italian meatball.

enjoy! ;) magic

Step Brothers

31 Aug

The physical comedy was outstanding and the acting itself was pitch perfect.

Many critics commented on how well they did given what they had to work with, but I think the script was excellent.

Some of the lines were brilliant, but you really have to give the actors credit for improvising.

After Ferrell revealed his singing talents when he sang “Let’s Give ‘Em Something to Talk About”, when Reilly gushed on and on about how great he was, and then said “I’m not sure, but towards the end I think I saw you turn into a Unicorn”, I lost it. :P

I really lost it when Ferrell’s brother & his family were singing in the car “Sweet Child of Mine”. It was a real classic. :P

Hell, I think I’ll buy this when it comes out on DVD.

Don’t miss this one. It’s a scream. its magic!

enjoy! ;) magic

He Was a Quiet Man

31 Aug

He Was a Quiet Man draws on one of the most morbid aspects of our society and describes it perfectly.

Christian Slater plays the quiet cubicle worker, who, abused and mistreated by his coworkers, decides to shoot up the office.

Fortunately for him, another man in his position takes aim first, and Slater takes him down with the bullets he had originally meant for his coworkers.

After the aftermath, his coworkers whom he loathed, treat him as a hero; and the object of his desire, played by Elisha Cuthbert, is paralyzed from a bullet wound.

While Cuthbert initially enlists Slater to help her end her life, the two eventually form a bond that would have never otherwise occurred.

The movie leads us down a path of insanity and through the surreal, morbid, and sickened world of Slater’s character almost flawlessly; and delivers a thought provoking, eye opening take on the mind of a psychotic would be murderer.
