The Strangers

The tension buildup during the movie is incredible.

Some of the scenes are disturbing but not overly gory.

Liv Tyler does a convincing job of making you feel the fright and a lot of the acting is non-verbal.

Scott Speedman also does an excellent and believable job.

With todays crazy headlines, this is the kind of movie that you can actually imagine happening somewhere in this country in real life.

Trust me, at the end of this movie you will be double checking the locks on your doors and windows. :P

After returning from a wedding reception, a couple staying in an isolated vacation house receive a knock on the door in the mid-hours of the night.

What ensues is a violent invasion by three strangers, their faces hidden behind masks.

The couple find themselves in a violent struggle, in which they go beyond what either of them thought capable in order to survive.

make some noize at the jumps!! ;) magic

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

This film falls into the “It could have been worse” department.

But not by much. :P

This new Disney production features talking dogs, thieving rats, a meek iguana and the overshadowed acting talents of Jamie Lee Curtis and Piper Perabo (”Cheaper By the Dozen”).

On a scale of 1-10, this effort does not rate very high.

In fact, the most interesting aspect of a movie like this will be trying to figure out some of the animal’s voices.

Chloe (voice of DREW BARRYMORE), a diamond-clad, bootie wearing Beverly Hills Chihuahua enjoys her luxurious lifestyle so much, she hardly notices Papi (voice of GEORGE LOPEZ), a tough looking Chihuahua who happens to be head-over-paws for the pampered pooch.

But when Chloe gets lost in the rough streets of Mexico with only a street-wise German Shepherd (voice of ANDY GARCIA) to help her find her way home.

enjoy! ;) magic

BorderTown

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

After hearing this movie would not be released on the big screen I had doubts about whether I wanted to see it.

This movie was compelling, suspenseful, and well acted. J-lo is believable in her role and gives an impressive performance. :P

The importance of the topic of this movie should be enough to encourage people to see it but it is not for the faint of heart.

Put the kids to bed early before starting the movie!! ;)

Since 1993, almost 400 women have been murdered in Juarez, Mexico, a factory town that is home to people who toil away at “maquiladoras” (border factories) making cheap consumer goods for the US market.

have fun! ;) magic

Get Smart

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

posterThere are some good laughs in “Get Smart”, but what surprised me is how well-done the action is :P .

The exhilarating freefall sequence that was probably designed as a homage to the opening of “Moonraker” to Carell’s and Hathaway’s quick, efficient fight scenes.

The explosions at the “bakery” factory to the incredibly kinetic final chase sequence involving various means of transportation, the action in this movie probably surpasses the recent James Bond pictures, helped by the fact that a lot of it seems to have been done by the actors themselves, willing to take some risks.

So people who are more into action than into comedy should still get some satisfaction out of this.

Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS.

When the headquarters of U.S. spy agency Control is attacked and the identities of its agents compromised, the Chief (Alan Arkin) has no choice but to promote… Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) is on a mission to thwart the latest plot for world domination by the evil crime syndicate known as KAOS.
