Body Of Lies

Monday, October 13th, 2008

Russel Crowe may have packed on 50 pounds for his part, yet his performance feels extremely blah.

He speaks everything in the same meandering drawl, which may have been the point, but his character disappears for such lengthy bits, we tend to forget about him.

The promised pairing of him and Dicaprio is weightless; their scenes have no fire or bite.

Roger Ferris, Leonardo DiCaprio, is a CIA covert operative working in Jordan searching for terrorists who have been bombing civilian targets.

Ferris uncovers information on the Islamist mastermind Al-Saleem (Alon Aboutboul).

He devises a plan to infiltrate Al-Saleem’s terrorist network with the help of his boss back in Langley, Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe).

Birds of America

I thought the film was very good, but there were some slip ups. :P

First off, Hilary Swank was wasted playing a stepford-wife type, which truth be told, could have been played by anyone. :)

She is far better than that role.

As well, although somewhat important to the theme of the film, I found the feces aspect of the film rather distracting and with exception to one humorous scene, took away from the storyline.

It sometime amazes me that cinematography can be far superior in films with independent budgets.

The only complaint I have about the cinematography and lighting is that some scenes were very dark and it was difficult to truly connect with those scenes.

This is about socialization and growing up when there are no grown-ups. For Jay it means living within social boundaries and telling an occasional lie; for Ida it’s accountability for her actions, whereas Morrie must learn to loosen codes, assert the naked truth, and release responsibility to others.

Ideal for a Sunday afternoon, with your munchies ;) magic
