Wall-E

04 Nov

The best way to describe the film is as a science fiction, comedy, dramatic love story.

Wall-E, as a character, has dimension, personality, and heart.

Pretty impressive given that he is essentially a trash compactor.

It is true that there is little dialogue in this feature, but personally I did not feel it detracted from the story at all.

After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, Wall-E (Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class) discovers a new purpose in life (besides collecting knick-knacks) when he meets a sleek search robot named Eve.

Eve comes to realize that Wall-E has inadvertently stumbled upon the key to the planet’s future, and races back to space to report her findings to the humans.

Goofs

  • quarters, WALL•E is shown holding the plant from a 3/4 profile.
  • Continuity: Eve’s facial dirt markings disappear and re-appear. Eve gets several dirty markings on her otherwise pristine white exterior while in the garbage hold. A long dark stain runs down the right side (her left) of her ‘eye screen’. When she flies WALL•E and M-O out of the garbage hold into the corridor, and is photographed aiming her weapon at the steward robot, and in shot when locking the steward away, the marking is clearly gone. Immediately after, as she is flying down the corridor, followed by a growing group of faulty robots, the mark reappears. During the battle with the large contingent of steward robots, in the beginning when she shoots a steward, the mark is gone, but as she shields herself when the ‘massage’ robot is let loose, the mark reappears.
  • Factual errors: As the plant is brought to the bridge of the Axiom, someone says that this is proof that plants can grow and photosynthesis takes place again on Earth (and thus a return is possible). However, WALL-e found the particular plant EVE brought back to the Axiom in an old fridge, which was so well shut he had to use his laser to open it. Inside such an environment, the plant could not have grown properly, let alone made photosynthesis (light is needed for that and this is what enables a plant to be green).
