Impulse

11 Feb

“Impulse” has an absurd plot, and only if the viewer believes in perfect doubles and coincidences he or she may like this flick.

There is no credibility in the story and in the characters. Claire is a sexy woman in the top of her professional career but has a monotonous life with her husband.

Claire Dennison (Willa Ford, TV’s “Dancing with the Stars”) is a beautiful, sensuous woman, desperate to arouse her husband’s desires.

She devises a fantasy role-play game hoping to put the spark back into their marriage.

She sets the scene and her husband takes the bait…or does he?

Amateur Porn Star Killer 3

10 Feb

Real-life Porn Star Regan Reese portrays an up-and-coming actress picked up off the streets by the young serial killer.

What starts off as a good samaritan act quickly turns into a game of cat in mouse in the late night empty fields of a small town where the victim has nobody to turn to except the killer.

Hotel For Dogs

09 Feb

Overall, this was a harmless movie featuring a few humans and many trained dogs. :)

It was sugary and all things nice! :P

There was no real threat anywhere in the film of something bad happening (thus it is kid-safe for very young kids).

And they’ve reduced the idea of foster homes down to a concocted McNugget of a concept.

A pair of orphaned siblings (Roberts and Jake T. Austin) are forced to give up their beloved dog when they move into a foster home. But since they can’t stand to live without him, they turn a closed hotel into a home for their dog–and any other strays they can find.

Pink Panther 2

08 Feb

Most of the humor consists of sight gags and slapstick, but there are some quite funny scenes such as when Inspector Clouseau interrogates the Pope with hilarious results.

Other parts of the movie fall flat.

The rest of the cast is also funny. John Cleese playing a Frenchman was excellent.

Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) has been working outside a museum where the diamond is on display, writing parking tickets for the last 6 months.

Chief Inspector Dreyfus (John Cleese) assigned this duty to his bumbling and inept police officer to get him out of his hair.

Recently, treasures from around the world have been stolen by the Tornado, and an international dream team of detectives is being assembled to capture him.

The Wrestler

07 Feb

The film was made for $7 Million.

The filmscore is more atmospheric as the composer did not want to interfere with the documentary feel of the film.

Mickey Rourke trained for 6 months to get to the wrestling weight of 235 for the film. Weight training, wrestling training and eating 5,000 calories.

The scenes of Mickey Rourke and Evan Rachel Wood were as real as they could get.

The actors put on music before the scene and just talked about their real life and Mickey’s parallels to the film.

When the director felt they were there he would yell action and they would work through the scene. :) ET’s vault of surprises here :)

Estranged from his daughter (Evan Rachel Wood) and unable to sustain any real relationships, Randy lives for the thrill of the show and the adoration of his fans.

However, a heart attack forces him into retirement. As his sense of identity starts to slip away, he begins to evaluate the state of his life—trying to reconnect with his daughter, and strikes up a blossoming romance with an aging stripper.

New In Town

06 Feb

This is your typical chick flick, girl meets boy, she thinks he is a loser, and he thinks she is too.

After a few disaster type dates which should have ended the whole thing, you guessed it, they get involved.

Along the way, they save the company, and both become heroes. Sounds like someone i know ;)

A high-powered consultant in love with her upscale Miami lifestyle is sent to a middle of nowhere town in Minnesota to oversee the restructuring of a blue collar manufacturing plant.

After enduring a frosty reception from the locals, icy roads and freezing weather, she warms up to the small town’s charm, and eventually finds herself being accepted by the community.

The Spirit

05 Feb

WThe visuals and art direction were amazing, strong cinematography, very “Roger Rabbity” sorta feel with the rotoscoping of some scenes, his tie, shoes, backdrops etc.

Cheesy liners, a lot of the acting felt as if it was rushed, and some of the scenes were just very…awkward and boring to say the least.

Down these mean streets a man must come.

A hero born, murdered, and born again. When a Rookie cop named Denny Colt returns from the beyond as The Spirit, a hero whose mission is to fight against the bad forces from the shadows of Central City.

The Octopus who kills anyone is unfortunate enough to see his face who has other plans. :)

Inkheart

04 Feb

The whole thing had the same feel to it as the book – the film was a little rushed but overall it flowed very well (and to be honest Cornelia’s book doesn’t have the best flow in the world).:)

I think things that needed to be explained were explained well, and nothing would have confused me if I hadn’t read the book beforehand.

This is a very good film which hopefully will delight all fans of Inkheart as much as it delighted me.

I am very pleased with it because it’s almost like they took the book and put it into film version, with a few tweaks (they are rather large ones, but they worked well).

It is good as a stand-alone project and also as a film companion to the book.

Without the book this is a very good film, but with the book it’s even better because its as true to the book as I think they could do (with changes, of course, but thats what makes it able to be a stand-alone film).

The opportunity for doing the sequels is still there, but if they didn’t want to the film wraps up nicely.

Underworld Rise of the Lycans

03 Feb

http://www.releaselog.net/uploads/dacc778d8bf91d0d3fd4a7f66051ab80.jpgThe action in Underworld, though obviously restrained by a lower budget, is once again great.

There’s some nice dueling, the obvious gore and blood galore, and a nice Lord of the Rings style battle at the end. ;)

What it comes down to is that Underworld does nothing new, but does everything right in maintaining a steady river of entertainment.

I was never bored, and I don’t think you will be either.

The prequel story traces the origins of the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.

In the Dark Ages, a young Lycan named Lucian (Sheen) emerges as a powerful leader who rallies the werewolves to rise up against Viktor (Nighy), the cruel vampire king who has enslaved them.

Australia

02 Feb

Both Kidman and Jackman – two exceptionally gifted actors who, with the help of Australia, have overcome recent rocky patches in their careers – provide noteworthy performances and believable on screen chemistry.

Tall, pale, and thin, Kidman plays regal very well, courting an in full force stiff upper lip, that gives way to several funny moments, while trying to break out of her icy exterior.

Of particular mention is her vain attempt to herd cattle; and a woeful rendition of “Somewhere over the Rainbow” to a clearly amused Walters.

Jackman, meanwhile, evokes Clint Eastwood, Harrison Ford, and Humphrey Bogart to fine effect as the no nonsense, hands on Drover, while also providing eye candy for female viewers :P

In northern Australia at the beginning of World War II, an English aristocrat inherits a cattle station the size of Maryland.

When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn stock-man to drive 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier.
