Marley and Me

22 Mar

A simple story coupled with a superb cast, make Marley & Me a must see.

Wilson’s portrayal of Grogan is a welcome change from the often silly and one dimensional characters Wilson has become known for.

Equally compelling is the character Jennifer Grogan (Jennifer Aniston).

After their wedding, newspaper writers John and Jennifer Grogan move to Florida.

In an attempt to stall Jennifer’s “biological clock”, John gives her a puppy.

Gardens Of The Night

20 Mar

Relentlessly raw, authentic and sad: I hope that description doesn’t drive you away because it is also brilliantly directed and intensely human, and there is a loving relationship at the center that lights it all up like the sun. ;)

An 8-year-old girl is taken from her home and convinced that her family does not want her anymore.

After enduring 9 years of horror, she and her fellow victim are dumped by their captures.

Knowing

19 Mar

There really isn’t much to complain about regarding the film, but the one exception might be the middle, where the action sags a bit.

Still, I think the captivating final third more than makes up for it.

I definitely recommend the film – you will be pleasantly surprised!

In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule.

But one mysterious girl fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead.

Race to Witch Mountain

18 Mar

fukIf aliens exist, and if they have access to the films made from Earth, they would likely make a mental note to remind themselves that should they visit our planet on terms other than a hostile takeover or annihilation, to avoid landing in the USA at all costs. :P

Race to Witch Mountain being Disney fare means the toning down of practically everything to ensure that it is safe for the entire family to experience together.

Dwayne Johnson seems right at home in family friendly flicks like The Game Plan, and I guess his action days on screen will be few and far between.

For years, stories have circulated about a secret place in the middle of the Nevada desert, known for unexplained phenomena and strange sightings.

It’s called Witch Mountain, and when a Las Vegas cab driver (Dwayne Johnson) finds two teens with supernatural powers in his cab, he suddenly finds himself in the middle of an adventure he can’t explain. :)

Far Cry

17 Mar

This may be Uwe Boll’s best movie ever.

No,I’m not a fan. How could I be. Uwe Boll is a director who shows no respect for his audience and doesn’t deserve respect when it comes to making movies.

He even admitted himself that he does it solely for the money.

He is not skilled at all and has got the creativity of an amoeba.

But is that a reason for not liking or watching his movies? lol :P

On a personal note this is the BEST FILM of the YEAR!! – magic :)

An adaptation of the first-person-shooter video game where Jack Carver, a retired Special Forces Officer who now is transport for hire, by people and cargo.

On one particular trip Jack ferries a photographer ‘Val’ who wants to photograph old Japanese WW2 bases on some of the Micronesian islands.

He goes through hell when his boat is attacked and destroyed by an unknown party while Val is away.

Surviving by the skin of his teeth, he must now find Val and uncover what is truly happening on these dark and mysterious islands.

Coraline

16 Mar

Henry Selick, the director of ” The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “James and the Giant Peach”, once again takes us to a world full of imagery and wonder…but this time…some of it is actually frightening.

It was filled with such magic and enchantment that I completely forgot that it was a dark tale..until the occasional scares filled the air.

Filled with a great cast and terrific visionary, I feel this movie is fun for all ages (who says kiddos shouldn’t be scared?) :P its all good!!

A young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life.

On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better.

When her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.

nice one ;) magic

The Room At The End Of The Hall

15 Mar

Just about everything about Nightmare at the End of the Hall works, and works well.

Rue and McInnes Wood were great casting choices, with Kavan Smith, Sebastian Gacki, and Amber Borycki turning in capable and credible performances.

The lighting, locations, and sets lend to the overall mood of the film. ;) super!!

Courtney Snow (Sara Rue), an author with writer’s block, still haunted by the suicide of her best friend while they were in prep school, finds herself teaching at the very same school while trying to get back on her feet.

She encounters a young student, Laurel, who seems in every way to be the reincarnation of her best friend from years ago.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

14 Mar

The actors were all terrific. The “chemistry” was there.

The storyline was interesting (not deep, somewhat predictable, but still pleasant and interesting). I laughed and smiled a lot throughout the film.

I even thought that the movie did a good job of showing why people are shopaholics and how this addiction is so dangerous.

The message was not so heavy as to detract from the feel-good angle of the movie, but it did try to display how ridiculous and shallow it is to be so defined by things.

You negative folks need to lighten up. Personally, I really enjoyed this movie! hehe :P

Two Lovers

13 Mar

Gwyneth Paltrow is like Italian ice cream on a summer day. Vinessa Shaw is like hot chocolate on a winter morning. Why can’t I have them both? It’s just not fair! hehe :)

The title and the trailer make it evident that this is a romantic drama in which one man is torn between two very different women.

That man is Leonard Kraditor (Phoenix), a generally introverted man who has moved back in with his parents after a failed relationship.

Two Lovers is a romantic drama set in New York City.

It tells the story of Leonard (Joaquin Phoenix), an attractive but depressed young man who moves back in with his parents following a recent heartbreak.

An aspiring photographer, Leonard works part-time at his father’s dry-cleaners.
