The Hangover

06 Jun

 Now, the movie is hilarious.

Having become so used to the thought of the Judd Apatow gang being the only ones to make truly funny films, but realized very quickly into this movie that it was by far ten times funnier than Pineapple Express, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Step Brothers, etc.

OH and by the way, if you love Old School, you will LOVE the ending.

Two days before his wedding, Doug (JUSTIN BARTHA) drives to Las Vegas with his best buddies Phil and Stu (BRADLEY COOPER and ED HELMS) and his future brother-in-law Alan (ZACH GALIFIANAKIS), for a blow-out bachelor party they vow they’ll never forget.

But when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning with pounding headaches, they can’t remember a thing.

Their luxury hotel suite is beyond trashed and the groom is nowhere to be found.

With no clue about what happened and little time to spare, the trio must attempt to retrace their bad decisions from the night before in order to figure out where things went wrong in the hopes of finding Doug and getting him back to L.A. in time for his wedding.

Shermans Way

05 Jun

Very likable characters, believable character growth, Excellent actors, Excellent writing.

The movie description keeps referencing “road trip” but felt like it was sort of a road trip pitstop movie.

Meaning… There’s these two guys, they go on a road trip, but then they have to stop at a small town for a few days and that’s where the majority of the film takes place.

I’m not sure why Lacy Chabert is credited so highly in the movie because she’s in it for all of 2 minutes. :P

But Brooke Nevin is in it and she was pretty damn awesome. nice!!

Having followed his girlfriend out to California’s Wine Country for the summer, Yale law student Sherman finds himself dumped, and cut off from his high-society mother’s money.

A stranger stranded in a strange land, Sherman finds himself hitching a ride with Palmer, a washed-up, unapologetically eccentric Olympic athlete.

The journey holds many funny and unexpected detours along the way, including the possibility of an enlightening girlfriend, an encounter with a gun-wielding gourmet chef and a chance for the former athlete to be on top again.

super! ;) magic

The Cell 2

04 Jun

Though this was a lot different than the original “Cell” with J-Lo, it was really creepy in its own way – Frank Whalley freaks me out in this movie as a sadistic killer, and the hook of having him kill and then revive his victims over and over again is really cool…and scary. ;)

It kind of reminded me of “The Silence of the Lambs” more than the surreal visuals of the first “The Cell”, grittier but I think it gives the horror a more in your face reality that just makes it scarier. :P

Check it out.

A serial killer continually flatlines his victims and then revives them, until they beg to die.

His latest victim, psychic investigator Maya Casteneda (Tessie Santiago), survived and bent on revenge.

Tapped by FBI, Maya realizes the only way to locate The Cusp is by entering his mind.

But if she dies there, she’ll also die in real life.

don’t try this at home ;) magic

Night Train

03 Jun

‘Night Train’ is sort of a chamber movie that takes place in the compartments of a train.

This adds to the tense atmosphere and mystery element and the bright colours used within the train compartments bring a feeling of illusion.

Overall, in terms of story it doesn’t offer anything new and there are plenty of plot holes but  the atmosphere within the train compartments was created very well.

It sort of looks like a noire film in colour.

The use of bright colours, the strange passengers, the characters: salesman, med student and ticket conductor and music create contribute to this bizarre atmosphere.

The wooden box was symbolically used, whilst keeping the mystery and suspense of what is actually in the box at a very strong point.

Pandora’s box is the first thing that comes to mind and the writer could have done so much with it, but alas! aaahh well – ed

Two Passengers and the conductor discover that a person has passed away on their Night Train cabin.

They come across valuable diamonds on his person, that they wish to keep for themselves.

So, to make it look like the man never boarded the train, they conspire to dump his body in a river that the train passes.

Their scheme to get rid of the corpse escalates to the point where they have to chop up his body just to fit him into a small trunk.

Friday 13th 2009

02 Jun

Friday the 13th has an incredibly powerful first 15-20 minutes.

It really kicks off with a bang.

Jason is back better than ever. :P

Then something goes fractionally wrong and we fall back into old territory.

Everything becomes a bit too familiar.

The main characters are strong in their performance without being memorable.

The cameos are the real scene stealers including a gas station attendant and a man named Donnie.

A lot of the jokes from all concerned really hit the mark though and are a nice touch to the film.

The Friday the 13th remake is what it is and at the end of the day probably all that could realistically have been hoped for.

It won’t decrease the seemingly ever growing hate of remakes, but it certainly won’t add to it either and that in itself is an achievement.

Searching for his missing sister, Clay heads up to the eerie woods of legendary Crystal Lake where he stumbles on the creaky remains of rotting old cabins that lie in wait behind moss-covered trees.

And that’s not the only thing hiding under the brush. Against the advice of police and cautions from the locals, Clay pursues what few leads he has with the help of a young woman he meets among a group of college kids up for an all-thrills weekend.

But they are about to find much more than they bargained for.

Nice!! ;)

Push

01 Jun

The storyline was rather good and believable, didn’t leave me confused or bored at the end.

Although more time could have been spent explaining certain things in detail instead of the constant scenes of standing around and pondering the next move.

The visual effects in this film are pretty good. And the acting isn’t too bad either.

Applause for Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans.

Also, the way the movie was shot, there was somehow this sense of realism to the whole thing.

The Division, a shadowy government agency, is genetically transforming citizens into an army of psychic warriors–and brutally disposing of those unwilling to participate.

Nick Gant, a second-generation telekinetic or “mover,” has been in hiding since the Division murdered his father more than a decade earlier.

He has found sanctuary in densely populated Hong Kong–the last safe place on earth for fugitive psychics like him–but only if he can keep his gift a secret.

have fun! ;) magic
