Humanitys End

11 Sep

It drifts quite randomly from action, to comedy through to drama and human emotion.

The ending is very sad, but it’s a very good one, the film does well to take into account that we have evolved socially, genetically and of technologically.

We find an array of characters, each given an equal dialog to display their dilemmas and beliefs.

The captain is indeed a very Han Soloeque man, and with the ability to fire out four letter words, we soon adopt a lot of respect for him. :D

All the supporting roles were good, and the story also not too bad.

The special effects are given a lot of screen time, and they are above par to your standard b film.

This could’ve been an awesome movie if they had more money and time, this could’ve been something awesome!

Anyways there is worse out there, but there is better, it’s just sad that the producer didn’t get a bigger budget.

Nevertheless it still worth watching it.

The time is several centuries into the future; Man has been relegated to a minority species, “homo-sapiens” quickly being replaced by the clone race “homo-technis”.

Even these scientifically designed carbon copies are being usurped by a new breed of genetically engineered individual known as “homo-superior.”

In conjunction with an alien race known as the Nephilim, superior is strategizing to eradicate homo-sapiens all together, a galaxy wide bit of revenge as genocide on the part of these angry extraterrestrials.

enjoy! ;) magic

Leviathan

10 Sep

A deep-sea mining crew, counting down to its last few days (well, first, of their project, and later, of their lives–ouch, that was pretty promo-like, huh?) :D and, seemingly out of nowhere, one of the crew members becomes infected with an odd sort of skin disease, which may lead back to a small, spider-like sea creature brought on board.

In any event, things don’t look good, and this disease is apparently something more.

Something very deadly.

This may also explain the sunken Russian ship they find, with the mysterious captain’s log and, well…one thing leads to another, and “Alien”-style fun ensues as members of the small crew are infected or killed.

The special effects are excellent, and with all this CGI crap we have today, its great to see these “genuine” effects, and they look great.

Overall, the movie isn’t bad, it sustains a good amount of suspense in parts, and George P. Cosmatos can handle a swift action scene quite well.

“Leviathan” ain’t bad or you can try “The Abyss” for similiar fun.

Enjoy! ;) magic

DeepStar Six

09 Sep

Deep in the ocean some foolish marine biologists accidently disturb an ancient prehistoric creature from its slumber.

The creature is understandably a little cheesed off and proceeds to cause the death of many of said biologists.

The creature is particularly impressive and credit must go to the the special effects guys.

The cast is eclectic, shot on a shoe-string-budget and as ever Miguel Ferrer giving the best performance as Snyder, the only member of crew realizing the gravity of their situation and slowly going stir crazy. ooohh yeeahh!

This film is better than many other watery efforts and this includes bigger budget efforts like Leviathan and Sphere.

The crew of an experimental underwater nuclear base are forced to struggle for their lives when their explorations disturb a creature who threatens to destroy their base.

nice! ;) magic

Spy School

08 Sep

Spy School is a really good movie.

Although it doesn’t share the science fiction special effects of Spy Kids, it has a similar appeal.

The camera work and the lighting are excellent.

The plot is not predictable; there is actually a mystery going on here that kids and adults will enjoy.

The kid actors are magic, and there’s even some cool music, including two renditions of Macho Man, they should have thrown in a bit of steps! (very nice lol) :D

And of course what would a teenage spy caper be without some crawling through the ducts, but that’s forgivable.

This is a great movie to share with your children… nothing less than innocent here, don’t worry.

The most violence is a gun than never shoots and a guy falling a few feet off a ladder.

Otherwise this is perfect entertainment for the entire family.

When he goes public with his story, no one believes him, and he is forced to save her on his own. Thomas Miller has a reputation for lying.

So when he catches wind of a plot to kidnap the president’s daughter, he tells anyone who will listen — but nobody’s willing to believe him, except his best friend, Jackie.

They may be just kids, but now it’s up to Thomas and Jackie to keep the First Daughter out of danger.

break out your popcorn – ;) magic

Extract

07 Sep

“Extract” is just one of those smile the whole way through and laugh just a couple handfuls of times comedies.

It’s not a triumph, the characters are not nearly as rich as “Office Space,” and it skimps on its potential.

The cast is talented, the writing is natural and it still carries on the working-class spirit that made “Office Space” connect with so many people.

The bottom line is that whether funny or not, Judge prefers to show off our good side, focusing mostly on the troubles we endure in life as we try to reconcile being good people with having personal needs and desires.

Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Kristen Wiig, Clifton Collins, and J.K. Simmons star in writer/director Mike Judge’s comedy about a flower-extract plant owner contending with an ever-growing avalanche of personal and professional disasters.

An employee at the factory has just suffered an unfortunate accident on the assembly line, but little does the put-upon owner realize that things are about to get much worse.

Gamer

06 Sep

Gamer is, first and foremost, mostly a brainless action film in the vein of Crank and other hyperkinetic actioneers, which is presented in fast, somewhat jittery cuts.

There’s plenty of ultraviolence here and a world of uber-tech that revolves around mind control and the next phase in adult entertainment.

While the premise seems a bit silly, with some people subjecting themselves to more demeaning elements, it is a bit thought provoking, which is kind of nice in an action film. ;)

It does edge close to Schwarzenegger’s Running Man, although this film stands on its own with a stern Gerard Butler and over-the-top Michael C Hall.

The film rushes itself, finally slowing down to a decent pace at the end, with an ending that is very fitting and entertaining, however, most of it is a mix between speedy action and lackluster dramatic scenes.

GAMER is a high-concept action thriller set in a near future when gaming and entertainment have evolved into a terrifying new hybrid.

Humans control other humans in mass-scale, multi-player online games: people play people…for keeps.

Mind-control technology is widespread, and at the heart of the controversial games is its creator, reclusive billionaire Ken Castle (Michael C. Hall).

have fun! ;) magic

Spread

05 Sep

Yes… there are so much sex and “glamour” in the beginning; nevertheless, the real story begins afterwards – the one that is worth to see, and that is not a romantic comedy as the producers had it advertised.

Spread is a heavy handed and patently nasty ode to 21st century values of greed and excess.

Demi Moore’s toy boy Ashton Kutcher is perfectly cast here as Nikki, a handsome, vacuous, arrogant but impoverished stud who seduces wealthy, lonely older women and sponges off them while giving them an enjoyable sexual experience.

He is currently sharing the lavish Hollywood Hills mansion of 40ish lawyer Samantha (Anne Heche), but while she is away on business he beds a number of younger more insatiable girls.

He remains emotionally detached, and never lets anyone get too close to him …. that changes when he meets Heather (Margarita Levieva), a waitress who works in a coffee shop. :)

Halloween II

04 Sep

Zombie’s “re-imagining” of the second coming of Michael Myers was way off.

Yeah he spiced up the original with Michael’s backstory, but he completely redid the second one. :D

So if you just want to see people get stabbed with a cool directorial style and nice lighting (oh and boobs ;) , lots of those) then yeah you might like it.

But for what it’s worth, the backbone of any good movie is good source material, and the source material for this was Zombie’s lackluster screenplay.

Shame… the first one was so promising, this one definitely ended it. Not only because Zombie says he won’t direct another, but because it went so far downhill from the first one it basically killed itself.

Oh and the final scene in the movie is ridiculously laughable and will most likely give you a WTF look on your face. Just another slasher flick. Nothing special here.

Michael Myers is still at large and no less dangerous than ever.

After a failed reunion to reach his baby sister at their old home, Laurie Strode is immediately taken to a hospital to be treated by the wounds that had been afflicted by her brother a few hours ago.

However, Michael isn’t too far off and will continue his murdering ‘Halloween’ rampage until he gets his sister all to himself.

The Final Destination 2009

03 Sep

the-final-destination-poster-bigTo top its predecessors, this installment had its introductory big scene set in stock car racing, which is the perfect avenue for a hundred and one things to go wrong, and when they do, have thousands of potential victims to pick off from.

While the very first movie had a spectacular, and some say too realistic for good taste in having witness from within a plane break up and explode upon take-off, this one had an adrenaline pumping race that got enhanced thanks to the latest gimmick in town… 3D.

The movie starts off pretty good, the premonition sequence works fantastically with the 3D, even though it’s not as good as part two’s brilliant car pile-up.

This film also contains the most ironic and funniest death scene in the whole series but since everyone knows that people go watch these movies for the death scenes, we’ll keep quiet.

One paradoxical thing we should say is that the death scenes in here are more for quantity than quality, which is quite unfortunate, but these deaths work really well with the 3D.

On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him.

When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave…escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality.

Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning…. very nice!

Windows – The New Version!

02 Sep

Microsoft has made numerous changes to the Windows 7 user interface in response to user feedback, which is scheduled for formal launch either at the end of this year or early next year depending other factors.

Microsoft also made changes to alerts that signal when an application needs attention.

The icon for a so-called “needy” application will now flash up to seven times, as opposed to the previous three, in an effort to grab the user’s attention.

Windows Vista, the company’s current Operating System, has failed to catch on with mainstream computer users while businesses have shunned it outright.

Many users have complained about Vista’s hardware requirements, intrusive security measures, and lack of compatibility with older applications.

Windows 2000 and ME were repackaged editions of Windows 98 ;) hopefully Windows 7 a repack of Vista will be more accepted as a dependable new operating system.

Built on the technology of Windows NT 4.0 …. Windows XP is the best Windows eXPerience! :D
