How To Train Your Dragon

04 Aug

How to Train Your Dragon is probably the best Dreamworks picture we have ever seen.

If you didn’t know it was a Dreamworks picture, we wouldn’t be surprised if you thought it was a Pixar film.

This movie is almost as good as those amazing Pixar movies out there.

First off, let us say that you must watch this movie in 3D.

It’s not one of those movies that has 3D for the sake of it.

The visuals are absolutely stunning and a definite must see in 3D.

It’s not very predictable, it is enjoyable for both adults and young kids.

From the studio that brought you “Shrek,” “Madagascar” and “Kung Fu Panda” comes “How to Train Your Dragon.”

Set in the mythical world of burly Vikings and wild dragons, and based on the book by Cressida Cowell, the action comedy tells the story of Hiccup, a Viking teenager who doesn’t exactly fit in with his tribe’s longstanding tradition of heroic dragon slayers.

Hiccup’s world is turned upside down when he encounters a dragon that challenges he and his fellow Vikings to see the world from an entirely different point of view.

Warning: The Dragons may look a little scary to some younger kids.

All in all, the visuals are perfect.

Enjoy! ;) magic

Goofs

  • Continuity: In the scene when Hiccup draws Toothless he erases part of the tail fin. In a later scene while reading the dragon book he shows his picture of Toothless which no longer has an erased tail fin. Then when he starts building a tail fin for Toothless, his drawing of the tail fin is erased, where he then proceeds to draw one again. (Note: This goof was corrected while still showing in theaters. Current versions of the film now show the smeared tail fin during the dragon book scene.)
  • Continuity: When Hiccup first attached the artificial tail fin, Toothless is distracted by eating fish from a basket. Toothless takes off with Hiccup on his tail, we get a shot of the ground – the basket is missing.
  • Continuity: When Hiccup is searching for the dragon he shot down, he hits a tree branch which flings back in his face. In the next shot Hiccup hasn’t moved, but the branch is gone.
  • Continuity: The actual size of Toothless varies from one scene to another (compared to Hiccup’s height).
  • Revealing mistakes: In the dragon manual, most of the runes are written backwards. They’ve clearly “made up” some of the runes, but the ones that actually exist are the wrong way round.
  • Continuity: When Hiccup draws the first sketch of night fury he draws the tail fin and then erases it with his sleeve because toothless has only one fin ,in the next scene when he is reading the dragon manual he opens the page for black fury which is blank and then takes out his sketch which still has both the tail fins clearly drawn.
