Salt

07 Aug

This turned out to be one of those over-the-top but real decent thrill-ride type actioners.

Though there are those out there who just won’t cut Angelina Jolie a break, even the haters can’t deny that the girl can act.

She’s excellent in this film, about one of the CIA’s top interrogators who’s accused of being a Russian sleeper agent.

It’s fairly early in the film when the action begins and it runs and runs from there on.

There’s a good twist to plot much later on and we like movies that let you try to figure them out as they go along, rather than force feeding you the answers with dumbed down dialog and screechy music because the writers assume the audience is too stupid to get the obvious story movements.

This one doesn’t do that. :)

If you’re not a fan of crazy stunt sequences that no one (in reality) would come out of without broken bones, much less survive, then maybe you won’t enjoy this flick too much.

Otherwise, see it, it’s a blast, it’s got a good cast with Liev Schreiber (always excellent) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (ditto), and the storyline rips right along.

Check it out Today!.

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor and country.

Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy.

Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture.

Salt’s efforts to prove her innocence only serve to cast doubt on her motives, as the hunt to uncover the truth behind her identity continues and the question remains: “Who is Salt?”

It’s also been dubbed as “The Bourne Salt-imatum” you heard it first here at et – the place to be.

Goofs

  • Revealing mistakes: In one shot, a SWAT officer can be seen holding a Colt Model 933 carbine fitted with an EOTech red dot sight, the sight being mounted backwards on the weapon.
  • Continuity: When Salt walks into the holding room to interrogate Orlov, she places a black plastic ashtray containing a pack of cigarettes on the corner of the table. It stays there throughout several following scenes, but has vanished when she’s in the room alone.
  • Continuity: When Evelyn is climbing on the outside of the building, in some shots her dog’s head is visible sticking out of her backpack. In other shots the backpack is zipped up tight.
  • Errors in geography: In one of the Washington DC scenes, Salt is seen entering the Archives/Navy Memorial Metro station, and emerging from the L’Enfant Plaza station, without ever boarding a train.
  • Continuity: When Evelyn first goes on the run, she enters a stairwell, takes off her shoes and tosses them in the corner. The next shot shows the security camera’s view. The shoes are in a different position.
  • Revealing mistakes: While the CIA raids Evelyn Salt’s Apartment, they throw a flash grenade into the home, every single window on the exterior shatters but none of the mirrors or household appliances get damaged.
  • Factual errors: The Russians refer to Salt by her Russian last name, Chenkov. However, in Russia, as in many other Slavic countries, last names have different endings when referring to a man or a woman. In this case, Chenkov is a male last name. In reality, the name would have been Chenkova.
  • Revealing mistakes: The scene where Salt is mixing the bottles of bleach and a dark brown liquid to make an explosive device. When she starts to pour them into another container, the cap on the bottle of brown liquid is still on it.
  • Continuity: The movie is supposed to take place during the winter time as evidenced by the fact that there were no leaves on any of the trees during the scenes in D.C. and NYC. However, during the first chase seen on the overpass which took place in D.C. there were leaves on all the trees. This is because that seen was actually filmed in Albany, NY later on during the spring.
  • Continuity: When Salt is locked in the CIA building she takes a stair and throws it on the floor, in the next scene the stair is gone (at the security camera’s and the normal camera).
  • Continuity: Despite all her climbing and sliding down the elevator shaft, Salt manages to escape with her white shirt completely clean.
  • Continuity: Outside the Vice President’s funeral, the CIA lapel pin on Ted Winter’s coat changed orientation between shots.
