Jennifer’s Body

Monday, September 21st, 2009

‘Jennifers Body’ appears to be a dark comedy.

There are humorous parts that are related to some sort for sexual innuendo or blatant sexual act (such as the charming description of Jennifer, played by Megan fox, who had to sit on a bag of frozen vegetables after losing her ‘backdoor virginity.’)

But there are good suspenseful horror moments, there were a lot of scenes with ‘cheap scares’, the typical “I know someone is going to jump out now, I’m just waiting for it” scare.

Yet, the blood and gore was convincing, and we have to say that the scene where Jennifer appears in her best friends house covered in blood, giving a demonic blood filled smile and spewing out black goo was pretty good horror.

You gotta love those guys who make the Trailers to these sort of films they do a great job of generating interest!

Nerdy, reserved bookworm Needy and arrogant, conceited cheerleader Jennifer are best friends, though they share little in common.

They share even less in common when Jennifer mysteriously gains an appetite for human blood after a disastrous fire at a local bar.

As Needy’s male classmates are steadily killed off in gruesome attacks, the young girl must uncover the truth behind her friend’s transformation and find a way to stop the bloodthirsty rampage before it reaches her own boyfriend Chip.

Did we see Kate the leading lady in a tank top!!

P a a l e a s s e!

With temperatures below minus 30-40 degrees, where skin freezes in seconds, don’t think that the audience has forgotten where the story is taking place, even though they’re inside!

Be creative, yes; but also hire technical experts to match the location, so that you don’t ‘dumb-down’ the viewing pleasure and cause us, as we’re watching to laugh at how bad the ‘presentation‘ of the movie really is :P

The most isolated landmass on Earth 90° S. latitude, zero E. longitude, Six million square miles of ice, Six months of darkness, Temperatures at minus-120 degrees, Winds at 100 miles per hour, Nature never intended you to survive here…. ;)

For U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko, things are about to get even more dangerous.

The only law enforcement in this unforgiving territory, she has just been sent to investigate a body on the ice.

Antarctica’s first homicide; a shocking discovery in itself, it will plunge her into an even more bizarre mystery and the revelation of secrets long-buried under the endless ice…secrets that someone believes are still worth killing for.

Sorority Row

Monday, September 14th, 2009

This movie has enough frights & thrills to make you jump multiple times, but it’s not just that that makes the movie for us.

What makes this film different from all of the recent mediocre horror films is that it is very much character and dialogue driven.

The characters become as compelling as the plot itself and you actually find yourself starting to care about these characters.

The dialogue shoots back and forth between the characters and further builds up the suspense until the final revelation.

The suspense is very well drawn-out - it doesn’t reveal the killer too early and it doesn’t make you impatient for the end.

The resulting finale is a big bang and not disappointing at all. :P

The acting was also a cut above the rest - we didn’t cringe at the lame screams or badly-acted terrified facial expressions because there weren’t any. :D

This movie doesn’t deserve any awards, because it doesn’t want any.

This film is meant to entertain, and entertain it did.

It’s what most horror films today should be.

This movie has set a standard which all subsequent horror films (especially teen horrors) should follow.

A sorority prank gone wrong leads to a bloody murder spree in this slasher film featuring Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge, and Carrie Fisher.

It was supposed to be a practical joke, but no one was laughing after a girl in the prime of her life had been accidentally murdered.

Desperate to go on with their lives and avoid taking responsibility for their actions, the surviving sisters and their male accomplice agree to dump the body and never speak of the incident again.

Just after graduation, however, a mysterious killer begins stalking everyone who harbors the bloody secret.

Now if are a Perry fan you will love this movie.

Madea catches 3 kids trying to rob her house, then she takes them to stay with their aunt April played by Taraji P Hensen, Taraji proves she can carry a movie.

If it were up to us she would go back to the Academy awards this time she would win. :D

Yes! , Taraji is that good in this movie.

Hope Wilson gives a star making performance as Jenifer.

Gladyce Knight was great in the this movie, Pastor Marvin Winans gives a great performance as the Pastor Adam Rodrigez from CSI Miami is a good leading man here.

Mary J Brige is awesome as Tanya.

Madea and Joe played by Tyler are very funny in this.

Tyler Perry dose an excellent job on this movies this is his best movie.

A hard-living nightclub singer discovers the importance of family with the help of a handsome Mexican immigrant in this inspirational comedy drama from writer/director Tyler Perry.

When pistol-packing granny Madea (Perry) awakens to the sound of her home being ransacked by wayward teen Jennifer (Hope Olaide Wilson) and her two younger brothers, she promptly marches the troubled kids over their aunt April’s house.

But despite being the only relative the kids can turn to, April (Taraji P. Henson) is hardly a role model; a self-destructive songbird with a serious drinking problem, she spends her nights at the club and relies on her married boyfriend Raymond to pay the bills.

Suddenly, into April’s life wanders Sandino (Adam Rodriguez), a hard-luck immigrant in search of some honest work.

Before long, Sandino has moved into April’s basement room, and formed a solid connection with the kids.

You see … the closer April and Sandino grow, the more April begins to recognize the importance of faith and family.

9

The animation was evidently done (or at least supervised) by Starz Animation, and it has a consistent look and feel to it, as original as The Nightmare before Christmas.

Animation can give you all the time and space in the world, but this final drama on Earth is cramped, taking place in about a day in a ruined cityscape within about 2 klicks of the house where 9 first wakes up.

The film had an interesting plot that got a bit more complex in the end; part of the complexity had a spiritual vibe to it… it just seemed almost out of place and like the director was stretching for something that would make the film more “sophisticated.”

We were not disappointed in the movie by any means, it was a visually striking piece of film.

It was action-packed and fun without dumbing down the story or sacrificing it.

If you’re into sci-fi, apocalyptic thrillers, and animation this is for you!. :P

When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction.

Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good.

They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place.

As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Extract

Monday, September 7th, 2009

“Extract” is just one of those smile the whole way through and laugh just a couple handfuls of times comedies.

It’s not a triumph, the characters are not nearly as rich as “Office Space,” and it skimps on its potential.

The cast is talented, the writing is natural and it still carries on the working-class spirit that made “Office Space” connect with so many people.

The bottom line is that whether funny or not, Judge prefers to show off our good side, focusing mostly on the troubles we endure in life as we try to reconcile being good people with having personal needs and desires.

Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Ben Affleck, Kristen Wiig, Clifton Collins, and J.K. Simmons star in writer/director Mike Judge’s comedy about a flower-extract plant owner contending with an ever-growing avalanche of personal and professional disasters.

An employee at the factory has just suffered an unfortunate accident on the assembly line, but little does the put-upon owner realize that things are about to get much worse.

Spread

Saturday, September 5th, 2009

Yes… there are so much sex and “glamour” in the beginning; nevertheless, the real story begins afterwards – the one that is worth to see, and that is not a romantic comedy as the producers had it advertised.

Spread is a heavy handed and patently nasty ode to 21st century values of greed and excess.

Demi Moore’s toy boy Ashton Kutcher is perfectly cast here as Nikki, a handsome, vacuous, arrogant but impoverished stud who seduces wealthy, lonely older women and sponges off them while giving them an enjoyable sexual experience.

He is currently sharing the lavish Hollywood Hills mansion of 40ish lawyer Samantha (Anne Heche), but while she is away on business he beds a number of younger more insatiable girls.

He remains emotionally detached, and never lets anyone get too close to him …. that changes when he meets Heather (Margarita Levieva), a waitress who works in a coffee shop. :)

Halloween II

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Zombie’s “re-imagining” of the second coming of Michael Myers was way off.

Yeah he spiced up the original with Michael’s backstory, but he completely redid the second one. :D

So if you just want to see people get stabbed with a cool directorial style and nice lighting (oh and boobs ;) , lots of those) then yeah you might like it.

But for what it’s worth, the backbone of any good movie is good source material, and the source material for this was Zombie’s lackluster screenplay.

Shame… the first one was so promising, this one definitely ended it. Not only because Zombie says he won’t direct another, but because it went so far downhill from the first one it basically killed itself.

Oh and the final scene in the movie is ridiculously laughable and will most likely give you a WTF look on your face. Just another slasher flick. Nothing special here.

Michael Myers is still at large and no less dangerous than ever.

After a failed reunion to reach his baby sister at their old home, Laurie Strode is immediately taken to a hospital to be treated by the wounds that had been afflicted by her brother a few hours ago.

However, Michael isn’t too far off and will continue his murdering ‘Halloween’ rampage until he gets his sister all to himself.
