Killers

07 Jun

Killers was better the first time we saw it… when it was called True Lies.

The older title successfully combines all the elements of a top-tier espionage classic and then it brings in a likable, dynamic housewife to keep the female crowd in the film.

Tom Arnold was a rock solid sidekick for Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ashton has no one.

Harry Tasker has a reason for people to try and kill him and his family, Spencer not so much.

In True Lies, a subplot develops where Harry has reason to spy on Helen to see if she’s cheating on him.

In Killers, the idea is simply suggested without logic.

Killers completely shames the tradition of the espionage sub-genre; training missions have a more elaborate scheme, and they usually go to the trouble of making sense out of the background story.

By the end of it, you realize that all the twists you expected to be revealed are not only presented but also nonsensical.

The more you think about it, the bigger the waste of time it becomes.

Still, it’s easy to recognize that Killers is more rom com than spy thriller, and with that in mind, it’s almost a treat since the gunfire and explosions will entertain a male date better than the dialogue found in the standard chick flick. :P

Spencer Aimes (Kutcher) is just your average, undercover, government-hired super-assassin accustomed to a life of exotic European locales, flashy sports cars and even flashier women.

But when he meets Jen Kornfeldt (Heigl), a beautiful, fun-loving computer tech recovering from a bad break-up, he finds true love…and happily trades international intrigue for domestic bliss.

Three years later, Spencer and Jen are still enjoying a picture-perfect marriage – that is, until the morning after Spencer’s 30th birthday.

That’s when Spencer and Jen learn he’s the target of a multi-million dollar hit.

Even worse, the hired killers have been stalking the happy couple for years, and could be anyone: friends, neighbors, the grocery store clerk, even that crabby old guy shuffling across the street.

Now Spencer and Jen are on the run for their lives.

As their suburban paradise turns into a paranoid game of dodge-the-bullet, they must find out who wants Spencer dead and why, all the while trying to save their marriage, manage his in-laws, keep up neighborly appearances … and just plain survive.

The Karate Kid

06 Jun

First of all we really liked the acting!

Jackie Chan can do more than Kung Fu!

They had a extremely difficult job set in front of them when they decided to remake this movie.

Hats off to the Director and writers, who in our point of view were able to capture the essence of the original, well creating a new story with new characters for this one.

One of the other things we really enjoyed was that there was a lot more to this movie than just the Kung Fu.

They took the time to build a story develop characters and create some great action scenes!

Overall we were pleasantly surprised to find that this is actually a great movie!

This should be one of the greatest summer movies for Families!

12-year-old Dre Parker could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s latest career move has landed him in China.

Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying – and the feeling is mutual – but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible.

Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng.

In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease.

With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu.

As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

Repo Men

05 Jun

Couple of things… This movie is little gory and little bit of blood, but overall it is a cool movie.

This movie is in the nature of The Matrix, there is a lot of cool and interesting plot to this story and when it deals with the future of human civilization, the story is intriguing.

The story, plot and the gritty commonsense nature of the acting and story were pretty convincing.

Jude Law, the main character does a great job in this movie acting wise; Forest Whitaker was also intense and convincing in the movie.

The directing aspect of the movie is what made this movie good, the director was practical and commonsense in terms of the actor’s emotions, intent, timing and not very comical.

Without good directing, this movie is little easy to become something not real and comical.

Acting was great, plot was wide and deep, actions were practical except in couple of scenes.

It has a lot of bloody action.

The Last Song

04 Jun

Lets start by saying the book was incredible.

Maybe it doesn’t have the greatest plot, but it really portrays the progression and journey of love.

That was part of the movie’s “problem”, as a lot of scenes were rushed.

There were also a few unnecessary scenes…as well as parts that should’ve been included, such as the father’s faith.

In agreement with pretty much everyone else on here, the young boy who played Jonah has a bright future ahead of him.

He really brought emotion to the film. Miley needs a little work on her serious acting, but it can’t be an easy transition from Disney to this.

The movie didn’t flow as well as it could have, but it was still decent.

Seventeen-year-old Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island, Georgia.

Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father …until her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer on Tybee Island with him.

Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church.

The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms – first love, the love between parents and children – that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts …and heal them.

Letters to Juliet

03 Jun

Most Romantic Comedies disappoint us because they either drag on through a lot of silliness that would never happen as blatantly as it does in the movie, or they just seem to artificially drag out the story without seeming to have a point and then they suddenly hurry the plot along as if running out of film.

This one does none of that; it doesn’t drag at any point, the scenery was amazing and obviously the director spent a lot of time getting the scenic shots right because while not obvious some were taken in late spring while others were taken in early fall.

The two principle actors Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgrave were perfect in their parts while Adriano Guerri, Christopher Egan and Gael García Bernal were outstanding in support.

This is one of the best romantic comedies we’ve seen in a while.

When a young American (Amanda Seyfried) travels to the city of Verona, home of the star-crossed lover Juliet Capulet of Romeo and Juliet fame, she joins a group of volunteers who respond to letters to Juliet seeking advice about love.

After answering one letter dated 1957, she inspires its author (Vanessa Redgrave) to travel to Italy in search of her long-lost love, and sets off a chain of events that will bring a love into both their lives unlike anything they ever imagined.

Get Him To The Greek

02 Jun

Get Him To The Greek, is hilarious we laughed throughout the entire movie … Even during parts of the film that weren’t even that funny.

This film is funny, but, when compared to other comedy’s such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Hang Over or Supberbad, it is not that funny.

If you see this movie, and you take it too seriously, you will not enjoy it, some of the humor may not be found to be humorous to everyone that see this 80% of the jokes are about drugs.

As much as we enjoyed this movie, we would not recommend it to someone that is looking to see a masterpiece plot.

Despite Russell Brand not being such as great actor, he actually did a pretty good job in this film, and did a great job with his charictor, and the comedy itself.

To sum this all up, we would just simplystate that it is a great, entertaining, and interesting film.

Aaron Greenberg (Hill) gets things done; the ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment.

His mission: Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a $100-million tour.

His warning: Turn your back on him at your own peril.

British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex.

Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life.

View Trailer

But that doesnt mean he cant have a few orgies while he finds it.

When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her backright before kick-starting his world domination.

Green Zone

01 Jun

This is an interesting war film set in Iraq after the Oscar winning ‘Hurt Locker’ but it is not a disappointment, it entertains and retains interest throughout.

Clearly not based on true events but Paul Greengrass positively sets out to tell us that we were all misled by the propaganda of Iraq having weapons of nuclear disarmament, not so it seems!

Yes, good link up between Greengrass and Matt Damon with clear links to the Bourne series.

Damon himself has been a busy boy lately what with Invictus and The Informant.

So many Iraq war films have now been made that the subject matter is rapidly becoming less than interesting. this is likely to be classified as just another Iraq war film and quite easily forgotten.

Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass (The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, United 93) re-team for their latest electrifying thriller in Green Zone.

Set in the chaotic early days of the Iraqi War where no one could be trusted and every decision could detonate unforeseen consequences.

During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Damon) and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert.

From Paris With Love

31 May

This film was seriously awesome and very entertaining.

After watching this movie and almost every other one that Luke Besson has been a part of we can honestly say that Besson and Company are one of our favs when it comes to those who Create Action movies.

They simply know what they are doing (From Leon the Professional to the 5th Element) and we appreciate them continuing to push the envelope in keeping the “Action Movie” bar nice and high.

The first half starts out the same way hundred of other movies do, but the 2nd half goes in a different direction which we’ve also seen before but it doesn’t go toward the way we think it would.

Anyway, we don’t want to give anything else away…

A personal aide to the U.S. Ambassador in France, James Reese (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) has an enviable life in Paris and a beautiful French girlfriend, but his real passion is his side job as a low-level operative for the CIA.

All James wants is to become a bona fide agent and see some real action.

So when he’s offered his first senior-level assignment, he can’t believe his good luck – until he meets his new partner, special agent Charlie Wax (John Travolta).

My Fake Fiance

30 May

My Fake FianceWe’ve all seen this plot before, the girl gets a guy to pretend to be her boyfriend and eventually falls for him.

But the way this movie portrays it is both refreshing and entertaining.

There are no dull moments, with smart humour and just enough chick-flick romance to keep fans of those interested but not so much that everyone else gets tired.

Hart and Lawrence are a hilarious duo; their characters are so much alike in their cynical sense of humour that they keep the scenes moving with witty dialogue.

We will admit, the guys which Vince owes money to aren’t tough enough to be really believable, but then again real gangsters would be slightly disturbing in a light-hearted movie like this.

Great watch, too bad it was a made-for-TV, it’s much better than many on the big screen.

A sham marriage leads to genuine romance for a woman who lost everything, and a guy who’s in debt to a vicious loan shark.

Her moving van stolen, Jennifer (Melissa Joan Hart) is left with nothing but three throw pillows and a cardboard box.

aKKMCXC.png

Meanwhile, thirty-something charmer Vince (Joey Lawrence) has racked up a rather serious gambling debt.

Should he fail to pay up soon, he’s likely to wind up crippled for life.

Having recently met at the wedding of a mutual friend, Jennifer and Vince surmise that the best way to make some quick cash is to take a trip to the alter themselves.

View Trailer

If everything goes as planned, Jennifer will keep the items on the registry, and Vince can avoid becoming a punching bag for a bookie’s thugs.

Then a quickie divorce and everyone is happy; but in order for the plan to work, they’ll have to act like genuine love birds.

Trouble is Vince and Jennifer already bicker like a couple that’s been married for decades.

The closer the wedding gets, however, the more the prospective bride and groom find their fake affections taking on an air of authenticity.

The Book Of Eli

27 May

The Hughes Brothers, directors of From Hell and Menace II Society among others, have created an interesting and thoughtful action movie, that also carries a message of faith and hope.

The action set-pieces are well handled, and the photography of the movie, is very well done.

While the setting itself isn’t particularly new, along similar lines to Mad Max and other movies of this kind, they still get some pretty impressive visuals.

They are also helped by having two of the best actors around in this movie.

Denzel Washington carries the movie easily and is also very convincing in the action sequences.

Gary Oldman as Carnegie gives a performance more in line with some earlier work, such as Leon than some recent performances but he is always worth watching.

The rest of the cast, led by Mila Kunis all give good support.

View Trailer

Eli (Denzel Washington) has been on a journey for 30 years, walking west across America after a cataclysmic war that turned the earth into a total wasteland.

http://i50.tinypic.com/33ur2pi.png

The world has become a lawless civilization where people must kill or be killed.

The barren roads belong to gangs of cutthroats who rob and kill for water, a pair of shoes, a lighter, or just for fun.

Eli is a peaceful man who only acts in self defense, and becomes a warrior with unbelievable killing skills when he is challenged.
