The Secret Life of Bees

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

In the midst of the civil rights movement, Rosaleen finds herself in some trouble with the locals, inspiring Lily to flee with her to a South Carolina town that she believes holds the secret to her mother’s past.

In this town, they find refuge with the Boatwright sisters (Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Sophie Okonedo), who take them in on the strength of a story concocted by Lily.

Through their cultured world, filled with beekeeping, a lucrative honey business, religious beliefs and love, Lily finds the security she has longed for and finds the answers to questions that haunted her for years.

The film has its flaws. It dragged for a good portion of the first thirty minutes as we watch Lily and Rosaleen mill about, doing mundane things in their pitiful lives.

But then it really picks up when they meet the Boatwright sisters. :)

He has a knack for these adventure movies as he has in the Mummy movies, and the kid who plays his nephew Sean link up for family time to uncover some of the mysteries of the notes Seans father left in his journey to find a Lost land.

They decipher the notes and their adventure takes them to Iceland where they meet the other member of this trilogy a mountain climber who has the energy and smile to melt any glacier and keep up with the boys.

During a scientific expedition in Iceland, visionary scientist Trevor Anderson (Brendan Fraser), his nephew Sean (Josh Hutcherson) and their beautiful local guide, Hannah (Anita Briem), are unexpectedly trapped in a cave from which their only escape is to go deeper and deeper into the depths of the Earth.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

Beverly Hills Chihuahua

This film falls into the “It could have been worse” department.

But not by much. :P

This new Disney production features talking dogs, thieving rats, a meek iguana and the overshadowed acting talents of Jamie Lee Curtis and Piper Perabo (”Cheaper By the Dozen”).

On a scale of 1-10, this effort does not rate very high.

In fact, the most interesting aspect of a movie like this will be trying to figure out some of the animal’s voices.

Chloe (voice of DREW BARRYMORE), a diamond-clad, bootie wearing Beverly Hills Chihuahua enjoys her luxurious lifestyle so much, she hardly notices Papi (voice of GEORGE LOPEZ), a tough looking Chihuahua who happens to be head-over-paws for the pampered pooch.

But when Chloe gets lost in the rough streets of Mexico with only a street-wise German Shepherd (voice of ANDY GARCIA) to help her find her way home.

Dance of the Dead

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Every once in awhile a film comes along which breaks new ground.

Not to say that I’m a better judge than anyone else, it takes a lot to make my jaw drop. Gregg Bishop’s “Dance of the Dead” did that and more an added bonus is that I love horror movies anyway!! ooooh yeeahhh! :P

On the night of the big high-school Prom, the dead rise to eat the living, and the only people who can stop them are the losers who couldn’t get dates to the dance … us types always save the day lol :P

have fun and hide behind the cusions! ;) magic

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

The film is making zillions all over the world so what does it matter that it’s just a mediocre attempt to recapture the energy, the youthfulness and the innocence of the previous installments?

Love of cinema, that’s what made me react the way I did.

How can it possibly be that the most powerful people in the film world could agree that this was the script that everyone was waiting for?

Shallow, opportunistic, over long, over crowded and implausible in a way the other films weren’t regardless of their own implausibilities because one was connected tho the soul of the enterprise.

During the Cold War, Soviet agents watch Professor Henry Jones when a young man brings him a coded message from an aged, demented colleague, Henry Oxley. Led by the brilliant Irina Spalko, the Soviets tail Jones and the young man, Mutt, to Peru.

Close your curtains and join us here for this magic story … The world has become a vast conglomerate of islands of varying size and shape.

This babbling universe is mainly peopled with ruthless rogues, surly peasants and illiterate, petty lords.

Their main concerns revolve around two fundamental rules : Eat and don’t get eaten.

For this new world has become infested with a terrible plague: omnipresent, monstrously famished, mutant creatures, are wreaking havoc.

The rest my friends - see it for yourself.

This movie is powerful on many levels…the character development, the plot, the acting, the special effects, the scenery, the music…it is uplifting and “on the edge of your seat” exciting.

You are not just watching this movie you are involved in it because you are carried away by the story - you are so affected by the plot and the compassion that you feel for the characters.

I was liked the development of the friendship between the two lads and the influence of the grandfather and the uncle in this story, and the truth revealed that good things can come from life experiences that, at the time, seem too challenging for words!

Wholesome, funny, thrilling, and touching….you can cry and you can laugh with the entire family to watch and enjoy together!!  Cue the cheezie insperational music - oooh yeeahh!! :)

Two boys (Jesse James and Reiley McClendon) from a small town find their courage tested when they accidentally stow away aboard an airplane owned by the mob.

You’ll love it! have fun! ;) magic

Into the Wild

Tuesday, September 9th, 2008

Honestly let me just say this 1st Sean Pean made this story come to life, true life in every moment in the film.

This movie has nothing wrong with it, it is perfect in every way shape and form.

He did something that brought me to something I never could understand of what either i have to do or what i need to do in my life.

If you want a movie from the heart this is it, if you want a movie of love this is it, if you want a movie with real life emotions well this is all of them.

Its long but you’ll probably want more when you don’t want to leave your seat and just live in the moment of they story.

So from my heart to yours this movie will speak to you know matter what. :P

Shortly after graduation, Chris gives his life savings to charity, burns all of his identification, and begins hitchhiking across America, his ultimate goal being Alaska.

Citing passages from his heroes, Thoreau and Jack London, he is determined to escape society and get back to nature.

Across the Universe

Monday, September 8th, 2008

“Across the Universe” is a mess.

There’s no denying that.

It is poorly paced and badly structured, and at times its feather-light plot and contrived or obligatory numbers become tedious.

But at one point, about halfway through, I decided just to go along for the ride.

I delighted in every brash, bold choice, whether it worked or not.

I let the poignant moments move me, whether or not I intellectually felt that they were contrived.

Newcomer Jim Sturgess stars as Jude, a young man working on the docks in Liverpool.

Eager to escape, he travels to Princeton where he meets Max (Joe Anderson).

But it’s his meeting with Max’s younger sister Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood) that changes him.

They quickly fall in love, but their relationship is tested by the chaos of the late 1960s and Max’s unwilling tour in Vietnam.

Iron Man

Saturday, September 6th, 2008

Fortunately, I’m not one easily influenced by some users’ negative comments.

These people should try to restrain their bias opinions and try to review the movies as neutrally as possible. :P

Now I would say that this movie has slow but steady momentum-building.

It is a movie for people who has never known Iron Man in the comic series.

The characters are given names and personalities, true to their comic book counterparts.

Acting was among the best comic-turn movie I have seen so far.

Effects were believable and not overwhelmingly CGI, except for the tank scene. ;)

This movie, however, has sequel written all over it.

We know that because there are many scenes that could have lead to more.

Tony Stark is the complete playboy who also happens to be an engineering genius.

While in Afghanistan demonstrating a new missile he’s captured and wounded.

His captors want him to assemble a missile for them but instead he creates an armored suit and a means to prevent his death from the shrapnel left in his chest by the attack.

He uses the armored suit to escape. Back in the U.S. he announces his company will cease making weapons and he begins work on an updated armored suit only to find that Obadiah Stane, his second in command at Stark industries has been selling Stark weapons to the insurgents.
