The Morgue

21 May

This is a nice horror flick, has an entertaining storyline, super camera work and photography.

The acting was awesome with nice twists.

The directing of the film was really good, and we always think music helps to set the mood.

If you’re looking for blood and exposed human organs, forget it.

The budget was really low, but they did pull it off and a cracking film.

Trapped between the physical world and the afterlife, between dusk and dawn; six strangers, brought together through a series of unusual events, are an enigma to themselves and go mysteriously unnoticed by others.

In their futile attempt for survival, they latch on to each other at a desolate mortuary in hopes of making it through the night.

There is an astonishing twist in this intense psychological thriller, more is happening at the Morgue than meets the eye. ooohh yeeahh! :)

The Death and Life of Bobby Z

25 Sep

80f1.jpg

The movie is not totally horrible, as action films go.

The main problem is the many plot holes in the narrative that the creators probably didn’t count on, or thought their viewers wouldn’t figure out how the whole mess was going to turn out.

John Herzfeld directed the screen play by Bob Krakower and Allan Lawrence.

The credibility gap is huge when the people involved asks us to accept things that don’t make too much sense.

Tim Kearney, a San Quentin prisoner with an “impulse control” problem, expects to spend the rest of his life in jail, until the FBI makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

He can go free if he agrees to assume the identity of the late drug lord, Bobby Z, so the Feds can deliver him to a Mexican kingpin in exchange for a kidnapped agent.

Death Race

31 Aug

Set in an “Escape From New York”-style dystopic prison-culture (that sounds suspiciously like current American society), slaughter happens, stuff blows up, and the weak are culled like bunnies caught in the headlights of gas-sucking American muscle cars.

Jason Statham does his standard tough-guy job as the scowling Frankenstein, Joan Allen plays a ball-busting warden (perhaps a bit in the mold of Louise Fletcher’s Nurse Ratched), and Ian McShane of “Deadwood” has a solid cameo as the prison-wise mechanic, Coach.

Even Machine Gun Joe gets a new incarnation in the form of Tyrese Gibson, who thankfully is nothing like Stallone’s blustering Italian meatball.
