Next Avengers - Heroes Of Tomorrow

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The cartoon is something along the lines of the Marvel Action hour cartoons from the 90’s, just with a better script and much better animation.

In fact, having seen the cartoon, (just don’t tell anyone! ;) ) I would be more than willing to watch it as a cartoon series.

Keep in mind, it is intended for a younger audience, but I think most Marvel fans will enjoy it.

ooooh yeeeaahhh! ;) magic

Bigger Stronger Faster

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Finally an honest look into the steroid world.

These days in order to compete with your peers/teammates, you almost have to take some sort of performance enhancing drugs.

If you don’t, you’ll fall behind. Standard case of “keeping up with the Jones’s”. :P

I feel it is very obvious to the world and sports fans that this is going on, but NO ONE is honest about it!

When one guy gets busted, he’s looked down upon and singled out.

Not fair to single them out and criticize when everyone else on the team is doing it.

College

http://www.releaselog.net/uploads/5e5ceb786a42b6a8cdfe2c0bd00610df.jpg

Very boring and unfunny. Seems to rip off so many other movies.

For example the three main characters look like an exact carbon copy of the cast from Superbad, a shy skinny person, a fat snob, and one complete dork.

Jokes aren’t very funny and are old.

In trailers the movie brags that this will be the colt classic of the decade comparing itself to Animal House, Revenge of The Nerds, and American Pie, but this movie seems to be a rental movie at best.

The title college doesn’t fit the film, sure the movie takes place at a college but thats it.

This movie portrays college students as drunk, stupid, horny kids which might worry some parents. :P

After Kevin (Drake Bell), a high school senior, gets dumped by his girlfriend Gina (Alona Tal) for being too boring, he doesn’t want to go to the freshman orientation weekend at Fieldmont University, where they had planned to go together.

His best friends Carter (Andrew Caldwell) and Morris (Kevin Covais) convince him that the weekend away will help get his mind off her. Aye!

Flashbacks of a Fool

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

As Joe begins to wonder what has happened to his life, we are taken back to his adolescent days of first love on the quiet English seaside, to discover what this Brit has in fact been trying to hide from with a life of debauchery and excess in LA.

Even a fan of this film should be able see why some might find it slow and slightly dull, as it does rely on the viewer sharing in a sense of glory in the mystical power of great records, the tragic romance of nostalgia and regret, and the theme of washed-up stardom.

Hollywood star Joe is now a teenage boy in a tentative relationship with a school-girl called Ruth.

Further, his mother’s friend, Evelyn, is attempting to seduce him.

Engulfed by guilt at the unintended, tragic consequences of his subterfuge, he leaves home.

The Death and Life of Bobby Z

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

80f1.jpg

The movie is not totally horrible, as action films go.

The main problem is the many plot holes in the narrative that the creators probably didn’t count on, or thought their viewers wouldn’t figure out how the whole mess was going to turn out.

John Herzfeld directed the screen play by Bob Krakower and Allan Lawrence.

The credibility gap is huge when the people involved asks us to accept things that don’t make too much sense.

Tim Kearney, a San Quentin prisoner with an “impulse control” problem, expects to spend the rest of his life in jail, until the FBI makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

He can go free if he agrees to assume the identity of the late drug lord, Bobby Z, so the Feds can deliver him to a Mexican kingpin in exchange for a kidnapped agent.

100 Feet

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

The acting was really good, and it was great to see Famke Janssen in another horror movie, considering the last one she did (House on Haunted Hill) was nearly 10 years ago and Deep Rising :P .

She was believable, likable, but with a bitchy edge and made sure the vicious ghost wasn’t going to hurt her anymore.

Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick was also good as Famke’s young lover, and Bobby Cannavale nailed the role as the typical, tough NYC cop.

Michael Pare plays the ghost of the husband, and even though he’s CGI throughout most of the movie, he does a good job as the vicious, angry wife beating ghost. :P

A young woman, Marnie Watson, is granted early release from her prison sentence for manslaughter (killing her husband - a violent NYC cop - in self defense) on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home, effectively under house arrest, for the remainder of her sentence.

Her late husband’s partner keeps tabs on her from a patrol car parked across the street, hoping she’ll violate probation and he can send her back to prison.

The Andromeda Strain

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Some of you will like it - others may not who have seen the original but never judge a book by its cover … so they say :P

A U.S. satellite crash-lands near a small town in Utah, unleashing a deadly plague that kills virtually everyone except two survivors, who may provide clues to immunizing the population.

As the military attempts to quarantine the area, a team of highly specialized scientists is assembled to find a cure and stop the spread of the alien pathogen, code-named Andromeda.

Boy A

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Jack (Andrew Garfield) is released from prison, finally, at the age of 24 … having been institutionalized for most of his life.

He and another boy murdered a child, when they were themselves children.

When Jack is released from prison, with a necessary new identity, his counsellor Terry (Peter Mullan as a convincingly flawed mentor), believes so fully in his right to redemption, you can see Jack wanting and willing to believe him.

As the movie unfolds, Jack’s doubts continue to arise, through a series of episodes (drug use, a fight, trespassing) he finds it impossible to escape from his criminal past, despite a heroic rescue of a young girl trapped in a crashed car.

Lakeview Terrace

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

So I have to be brutally honest here, I was mainly looking forward to see “Lakeview Terrace” because I really thought it was going to be awful.

It did look that way to me by the trailers. So when it started it went from good to getting better and better.

Now not saying that this movie does not have flaws, because IT DOES.

But it surprised me with its thematic elements, and really suspenseful scenes. :)

A young couple (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) has just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship.

Adulthood

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Worth a watch for sure and recommended for a critics award.

The violence scenes were brutal at times but am sure the movie demanded the same.

Hats off to the director for bringing out raw talents out of these young actors and highlighting the growing problems of young crimes in this country.

Six years after he was convicted for killing Trife, Sam Peel is released from jail.

After returning home and finding no one in, Sam visits Trife’s grave and is confronted by a man who tries to stab him.

Sam is able to overpower him, but recieves a stab wound in the shoulder.

The man tells him that someone is coming for him, and his family.
