My Fake Fiance

30 May

My Fake FianceWe’ve all seen this plot before, the girl gets a guy to pretend to be her boyfriend and eventually falls for him.

But the way this movie portrays it is both refreshing and entertaining.

There are no dull moments, with smart humour and just enough chick-flick romance to keep fans of those interested but not so much that everyone else gets tired.

Hart and Lawrence are a hilarious duo; their characters are so much alike in their cynical sense of humour that they keep the scenes moving with witty dialogue.

We will admit, the guys which Vince owes money to aren’t tough enough to be really believable, but then again real gangsters would be slightly disturbing in a light-hearted movie like this.

Great watch, too bad it was a made-for-TV, it’s much better than many on the big screen.

A sham marriage leads to genuine romance for a woman who lost everything, and a guy who’s in debt to a vicious loan shark.

Her moving van stolen, Jennifer (Melissa Joan Hart) is left with nothing but three throw pillows and a cardboard box.

Meanwhile, thirty-something charmer Vince (Joey Lawrence) has racked up a rather serious gambling debt.

Should he fail to pay up soon, he’s likely to wind up crippled for life.

Having recently met at the wedding of a mutual friend, Jennifer and Vince surmise that the best way to make some quick cash is to take a trip to the alter themselves.

If everything goes as planned, Jennifer will keep the items on the registry, and Vince can avoid becoming a punching bag for a bookie’s thugs.

Then a quickie divorce and everyone is happy; but in order for the plan to work, they’ll have to act like genuine love birds.

Trouble is Vince and Jennifer already bicker like a couple that’s been married for decades.

The closer the wedding gets, however, the more the prospective bride and groom find their fake affections taking on an air of authenticity.

The Ultimate Gadget

28 May

This is brilliant, millions of people use these everyday of their lives and if you put a little thinking into it, you can get even more out of it, lets take a look.

ipad velcro image

What do you get when you combine the iPad with two strips of Velcro?

Seemingly it creates the killer ultimate device; a Northern California filmmaker has come up with various ideas with using  just two strips of Velcro and your iPad, this could mean the ability to ditch the majority of electronics in your home … within reason. :P

Pop it on the dashboard, and it becomes an easily navigable GPS or a movie player for bored kids; throw it up on the wall, and it’s suddenly a chic digital photo frame, spewing out images of you and your sweetie. (very nice!)

Attach it to the kitchen wall, and follow along as Jamie Oliver sears a pan full of fish steaks.

The ability to mount it on a wall means a mobile TV, wall-mounted cook book instruction player, a laptop for web surfing … the possibilities really do seem limitless.

You heard it here first though.

ipad bike image

Ah… the question on everybody’s mind is Can it Blend?

Well, yes but it can only be blended, it’s been tried.

It’s not the replace-all device for every electronic do-dad, but the Velcro certainly makes it handier as it does what it was built to do.

If you sit down and think about it, how many of your electronics, books and other things could you ditch with the iPad?

Unfortunately, probably not much at this point.

The device is an addition-to gadget, rather than an instead-of gadget for the majority of users.

But hopefully one day we can use it to replace a pile of other devices from laptops and remote controls, to books and alarm clocks.

not bad! ;) magic

2012

23 Jan

This is pure entertainment PERIOD.

Movies like this must be appreciated for what they are, which is a hell of a ride through a fantastic and mesmerizing end of the world, created by the mind of the director that is the best doing what he knows the most: change the surface of the earth with impressive visual effects.

Disaster movie maven Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow) crafts this apocalyptic sci-fi thriller following the prophecy stated by the ancient Mayan calendar, which says that the world will come to an end on December 21, 2012.

When a global cataclysm thrusts the world into chaos, divorced writer and father Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) joins the race to ensure that humankind is not completely wiped out.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon

27 Nov

The movie had a lot of funny lines in it that weren’t in the book, although the movie did use a lot of lines straight from the book; it was very very good.

Twilight fans shouldn’t be disappointed.

Yes there are scenes they left out from the book, yes they changed the relationship between two main characters, but overall it was true to the book, and very very good acting.

Bella Swan is still very much in love with vampire, Edward Cullen.

The rest of the vampire coven who call themselves the Cullens, especially Alice, decide to throw Bella a private party for her eighteenth birthday.

Things go wrong when Bella slices her finger and thirst overcomes the vampires.

As a result of the danger Bella was put through, the Cullen family decide to leave Forks, Washington.

At first Bella exempts herself from all social activities, until she realizes she can coexist with childhood friend, Jacob Black.

Something is happening to Jacob that he can’t explain to Bella, and their friendship starts to deteriorate.

But when someone from Bella’s past comes back to haunt her, everything will change again.

Planet 51

26 Nov

It’s an “ET-in-reverse” story. :P

An Earthling astronaut gets stuck on what he calls an alien planet.

The local green folks call him (accurately) the alien; the story is a fond tribute to drive-in’s, space-creatures sci-fi, and the 50’s.

With the Area 51 reference in its title, you know the film will be poking fun at everything it can get its hands on, including itself and it delivers this.

There’s hover craft that look like big-finned autos of that era, black & white TV, and pioneer rock ‘n’ roll.

It’s clever humor, although some of this has been done before.

Adults won’t be bored thanks to these in-jokes, and the kids should like the slapstick stuff.

The film boasts a great idea, and some, but not all, of the potential is utilized.

It’s good natured and fun, rating about average for an animated feature.

At least to U.S. astronaut Captain Charles T. Baker who lands on Lema’s planet hoping for a quick flag plant and a hasty return to earth and his millions of screaming fans.

But on this alien planet the media has tagged spacemen as brain-eating, zombie-creating monsters, causing Baker to run for his life and into Lema’s house.

Now it’s up to the green native to get the clumsy astronaut back to his spaceship before military dictator General Grawl and mad scientist Professor Kipple manage to exterminate the Earthly visitor.

The Fourth Kind

25 Nov

If you’re looking for a disturbing movie… then this movie is for you.

The real recordings combined with the recreated movie footage was so well executed that it will make you cringe and keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Fourth Kind exceeded expectations and truly sparked toward alien abduction and encounter theories.

Now, we are left asking many questions and still trying to decipher / figure it all out…

This movie earns two thumbs up!

Modern-day, Alaska, where-mysteriously since the 1960s-a disproportionate number of the population has been reported missing every year.

Despite multiple FBI investigations of the region, the truth has never been discovered.

Here in this remote region, psychologist Dr. Abigail Tyler began videotaping sessions with traumatized patients and unwittingly discovered some of the most disturbing evidence of alien abduction ever documented.

The Fourth Kind exposes the terrified revelations of multiple witnesses.

Their accounts of being visited by alien figure

s all share disturbingly identical details, the validity of which is investigated throughout the film.

45 RPM

10 Nov

imgIt’s hard to find a film about younger people that no only has a good cast, but a naturally awkward one.

The stars of this film are neither especially pretty, nor very self-confident.

Nor could they possibly be. Jordan Gavaris plays Parry, a boy who wants nothing more than to escape from his small northern Canadian town.

His friend, Luke (Justine Banszky) wants to get away as well, but for different reasons. She’d be happy just to be anywhere else.

They’ve been each other’s only friends for quite some time, but things change when another girl comes to town.

Debbie (MacKenzie Porter) catches Parry’s eye, perhaps partially because she’s the first girl to much notice him.

At least, the first overtly feminine girl.

But that’s the basic set-up of the film.

We’ll leave the rest for you to discover on your own. ;)

Fifteen year old Parry Tender doesn’t know where to turn.

Small town life is driving him crazy and a precocious girl who looks and acts more like a boy wants to be his girlfriend.

When a fluke atmospheric condition allows a fifty thousand watt Manhattan radio station to pump its infectious rock’n’roll signal into Canada’s far north, winning a radio contest might be Parry’s only way out.

Infestation

09 Nov

The cover shot is incorrect, it’s all we could find.

This “giant bugs attack” comedy is a blast of fun. :P

In the middle of getting fired from a job he took in a reluctant effort to please his dear ol’ dad (a wonderfully gung-ho, Ray Wise), an unmotivated goof-off is knocked unconscious by a painfully loud and high-pitched banshee-like siren.

When he awakes, he finds himself and – seemingly everyone else in the world – sealed up inside cocoons.

Breaking free, he wakes up several of his office mates and somehow ends up leading them in a dangerous crosstown trek toward safer environs, battling – and outwitting – giant murderous bugs – and worse – all the way.

Direction and performances are all excellent, as are the bugs and various other odd creatures.

Our hero, Cooper, awakes to find himself nauseous, weak and covered in webbing, hanging from the ceiling of an office where, just minutes ago, he started his new job.

As he struggles out of his slimy prison he comes face to face with his opponent – a grotesque, powerful and very angry bug.

All 3 ft of it. And so begins a hideous, nail-biting, comedic, all-action adventure to find a safe haven while constantly outwitting an infestation of monstrous proportions.

As Cooper embarks on his journey, he befriends a ragtag group of survivors including Sara, a feisty attractive female.

The Blackout

08 Nov

In a creature feature, the atmosphere and setting play part of the biggest role.

The apartment building and the basement setting are pretty weak.

The opening was kind if interesting, but once we got into the apartment itself, the movie went downhill pretty quickly.

There are very few quality moments in this, and the fact of the matter is that the story, acting and overall attempt at horror with this movie was pretty thrown together.

The CGI didn’t blend well with the live action footage, and the creatures themselves looked wooden and lifeless.

The girls were good looking, but none of the characters were given even a modicum of development in order to care about their fates.

The frenetic pace of the action was confusing, and there the only good things about The Blackout was the musical score which wasn’t half bad, and a couple of the shots were quality. Overall, it is a PASS!! :D

It’s Christmas Eve, the city goes dark, and the few remaining tenants of The Ravenwood find themselves trapped in their building. And they are not alone…  nice!!

Stepfather

07 Nov

Though a lot of the elements were typical and expected in this movie, it still held interest and had a few good ‘gotcha’ moments.

The original 1987 STEPFATHER, based on family killer John List, had two sequels and two television movie remakes.

Michael Harding (Penn Badgley) returns home from military school to find his mother (Sela Ward) happily in love and living with her new boyfriend, David (Dylan Walsh). As the two men get to know each other, Michael becomes more and more suspicious of the man who is always there with a helpful hand.

Is he really the man of her dreams or could David be hiding a dark side?
