Gremlins Pack

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

If you haven’t seen this, make time to see it!

Gremlins Pack includes Gremlins 1 and 2, there was literally no information to hand, but its the type of film you will love, and well Gizmo is magic :P

The first one opens up at christmas scene in the local town, the film is about gremlins who wreak havoc on the town, its hard not to fall in love with Gizmo ;)

The second one surrounded with the same idea as the first sees Billy and Kate coincidentally are still both working in the same building.

Billy is in the art department and Kate gives guided tours of the building. It is here that they stumble upon Gizmo and the inevitable happens. :)

It may not be brilliant in the eyes of the “Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences”, but it is in my eyes. 10 stars!

Riddick Trilogy

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Check this little bundle out!

First - Pitch Black

From the first 10 seconds of Pitch Black I was hooked.

Before I had seen this I was thinking that it would be just another cheesy sci-fi movie.

Instead I found a highly entertaining, on the edge of your seat, thought provoking action film.

The movie goes beyond your basic special effects flick.

The look of the movie is breath taking, the contrast of blues, yellows and oranges due to the three different suns is amazing.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

As you’ve no doubt guessed, it was created with children as the intended audience.

There are several lines that are cringe-worthy for the older crowd.

There are a few plot elements, too, that are completely pointless.

On the flip side, this film ventures into classic Star Wars territory.

Oddly enough, at times the dialogue and overall storytelling felt very old school.

Then, in the very next “screen wipe”, you get prequel-equivalent scenes.

You’ll encounter some familiar creatures/characters, as well as locales that will evoke a smile. And even though much of the humor is directed toward children, a large chunk of it is also aimed at older fans.

The heroic Jedi Knights struggle to maintain order and restore peace.

More and more systems are falling prey to the forces of the dark side as the Galactic Republic slips further and further under the sway of the Separatists and their never-ending droid army.

Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano find themselves on a mission with far-reaching consequences, one that brings them face-to-face with crime lord Jabba the Hutt.

But Count Dooku and his sinister agents, including the nefarious Asajj Ventress, will stop at nothing to ensure that Anakin and Ahsoka fail at their quest.

Deception

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Its not perfect by any means, the script has much to be desired and at times the acting was unconvincing.

Surprisingly I didn’t seem to find the movie overly predictable, however at times its dramatically far fetched.

Notably the complete stupidity of a shooting occurring in broad day light in a busy European city going unnoticed.

All this being said, the movie is entertaining.

Its definitely a mixed bag, where on one hand its very engaging and on the other it has obvious flaws.

I recommend it, you’ll be thoroughly entertained but try not  expect to much.

A disconnected accountant finds his mundane life injected with a new sense of urgency after striking up a friendship with a charismatic attorney.

Jonathan (Ewan McGregor) is an accountant who has lost his passion in life.

When his powerful new lawyer friend, Wyatt (Hugh Jackman), introduces Jonathan to a salacious underground sex club called The List, the dejected accountant soon believes he has found the woman of his dreams (Michelle Williams).

Big Stan

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

I’ve seen many comedy movies in my life, some good and some bad.

Some comedy movies involve large quantities of drugs or nudity to support the humor.

This movie however shows that with the right amount of goof and what you can make a most excellent comedy.

Big Stan tells the story about a con artist that finds himself a ticket to prison for fraud.

This very skinny (please make sure to watch his legs) guy has to survive in prison.

With this movie it makes sure you have a good time, there is a great cast and even the smaller roles are cast with effort.

This movie makes you wish every prison out there had their own Big Stan!

A weak con man panics when he learns he’s going to prison for fraud.

He hires a mysterious martial arts guru who helps transform him into a martial arts expert who can fight off inmates who want to hurt or love him.

Married Life

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Married Life surfs a fine line between the comic and the tragic that is uncomfortable to acknowledge.

But humor definitely wins out in the end, leaving us with an ironic but optimistic view of the flaws that increasingly populate our public and private lives as we grow older.

Cooper and Brosnan achieve a fascinatingly contradictory friendship between two men that is unlike any other I’ve seen on screen in a long time.

Set in 1949, the story opens into a picturesque, affluent suburb where Harry Allen resides with his wife, Pat.

There’s trouble brewing beyond the perfect picket fences.

Harry has fallen deeply in love with a blonde beauty named Kay (Rachel McAdams).

He confesses his secret to his longtime bachelor friend, Richard (Pierce Brosnan), and even introduces Richard to the lovely Kay.

Unfortunately for Harry, Richard is instantly smitten, and makes up his mind that he will do whatever it takes to win Kay for himself.

The Art Of War

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The Art of War is a 2000 joint Canadian-American action film directed by Christian Duguay, and starring Wesley Snipes, Michael Biehn, Anne Archer and Donald Sutherland.

The title refers to the ancient Chinese text of the same name by war strategist Sun Tzu, which has some bearing on the film’s plot.

Neil Shaw is an operative for the United Nations’ covert dirty-tricks squad, using espionage and quasi-ethical tactics to secure peace and cooperation.

When a shipping container full of dead Vietnamese refugees turns up on the docks and China’s ambassador is gunned down at a dinner celebrating a new trade agreement with China and the U.S., Shaw is framed for the murder and must evade the FBI and Triad gangsters to find out what is really going on.

Rails & Ties

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

While some may find the story implausible and saccharine, others will appreciate the manner in which Eastwood holds rein on the story, playing it for quiet honesty instead of explosive situations.

Both Bacon and Harden deliver the quality of sophisticated performances that have marked their careers, and the remainder of the cast gives strong support - especially Eugene Byrd, Marin Hinkle, Bonnie Root, Margo Martindale, and of course Miles Heizer.

This is a tough story to tell but the film holds an indelible mark on the viewer.

Blue State

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

This is a romantic comedy about a disgruntled Democrat who follows through on a drunken campaign promise to move to Canada if George Bush gets re-elected.

The film does rip in-to President Bush quite often, it starts out very well, but it lost steam in the second half and never recovered.

It stars Brecking Meyer and Anna Paquin, who also served as executive-producer of the film. ;)

Did you know: George Bush plays himself ;) (archive footage)
