K.Y.E.: Kill Your Enemy

Friday, November 28th, 2008

3 young men from Detroit’s East Side have signed a deal with a cable show in which they allow themselves to be filmed throughout their last day of freedom before getting locked up for their crimes.

They use the remaining 24 hours to clear up unfinished business and a final settling of old scores.

Once they begin doing exactly that, they find out that it’s a lot harder than they bargained for.

It turns out that these dudes aren’t quite the gangster badasses they proclaim themselves to be.

This mockumentary-style movie profiles three characters who are given a series of rules to follow as they attempt to murder their enemies and catch the act on camera.

Space Chimps

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Every scene was so rushed that the characters and their dynamics with each other lacked any real development, and every attempt at making the audience feel what was going on in the moment (or even caring at all) was murdered by this fact.

Obviously, I don’t need to say much more about the writing quality than I already have; it was just lazy, lazy, lazy.

Ham III, the grandson of the first chimp astronaut, is blasted off into space by an opportunity-seeking senator.

Soon, the fun-loving chimp has to get serious about the mission at hand: Rid a far-away planet of their nefarious leader.

Christmas in Wonderland

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I haven’t seen this, so personally can’t comment on it.

It’s turning out to be a pretty rotten Christmas for the Saunders family.

Having just moved to a new city from Los Angeles, they have no friends, no money and, with the exception of the bright-eyed Mary, no Christmas spirit.

To make matters worse, their mother is stuck in L.A., stranded by airline overbookings.

The Mist

Friday, November 28th, 2008

http://www.imageflux.net/uploads/851327perv.png

Let me take a breath… Never have I had such a visceral physical reaction to a film… ever.

In the last fifteen minutes I was nearly physically paralyzed, and then started shaking, realizing how numb my body was… and I am dead serious.

Frank Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novella goes heads above a 50s/60s monster movie homage.

This is grade “A” chilling, terrifying, unsettling and utterly hopeless cinema in line with the most cynical and depressing classics from the 70s.

The Mist itself and the monsters it brings are just the appetizer here. ;)

Following a violent thunderstorm, artist David Drayton and a small town community come under vicious attack from creatures prowling in a thick and unnatural mist.

Local rumors point to an experiment called the ‘The Arrowhead Project’ conducted at a nearby top-secret military base, but questions as to the origins of the deadly vapor are secondary to the group’s overall chances for survival.

Mirrors

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

This is a new horror it is totally magic, the direction of some scenes involving long dark corridors, doors slamming shut with pretty neat sound effects mixed with music all blends in.

One of the best horrors to be released so far! :)

Kiefier Sutherland is a ex NY cop battling sinister forces in mirrors that endanger both him and his family.

The movie opens with a terrified night watchman running for his life.

From what, we don’t know, until he begs forgiveness from a mirror for trying to escape.

The mirror cracks angrily in response . . .

Ten Empty

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Although its not anything totally unique in terms of structure, it is in a way fresh in the subject matter and execution.

Eliot (Daniel Fredricksen) returns to his small town home for his father’s new son’s baptism.

He’s moved away to Sydney, become a success in the luxury pen making business (made from the material of Porches no less) and distanced himself from his families lifestyle and past.

Although he is the lead in the film, the picture does not make him any kind of hero per-say.

When his father offers him a beer, he remarks that he only drinks red wine.

He wears fancy clothes to everyone else’s old t-shirts.

He is something of a quiet snob. ;)

Elliot’s father Ross Marries Jane’s sister, Diane, and together they have borne a child, Cooper, to whom Elliot is to be godfather.

Diane loves Ross, but Ross is not the man he used to be.

Deeply scarred by the loss of his wife, he pushes Diane away.

Garden Party

Here we have yet another film about people living or moving to LA to try and follow their dreams.

The problem with stories like this is the subject matter itself.

While the story lines that do join together are forced and many times just don’t feel genuine in the least bit, but we do have small scenes of character interactions that are quirky, funny, and charming. :P
