Over all this is a cute movie, there’s nothing special about it, but it’s worth the look.

After Tom Hurndall is shot in the head in Gaza, his parents Anthony and Jocelyn arrive in Israel wanting to know how it could have happened.

When an Israeli army report attempts to whitewash the incident, the Hurndalls decide the only way to establish the truth is to launch their own investigation into the shooting, a process which brings them face to face with both the Open-Fire regulations of the Israeli army in Gaza, and the soldier who pulled the trigger.

The movie heads off directly into a car chase with some terrorists in pursuit of questions, for some reason the dad decides its a good reason to go off road when their seat belts look like a strap for a backpack.
The movie contains a lot of terrible acting, this is instantly discovered in the scene where they for some reason run into an abandoned factory like place with a completely new truck in there, which they proceed to take off in for about 20 yards, and terrorists who think shooting wood will stop the wood from falling over them, and for some reason their UZI’s sound like heavy machine guns.
Later into the movie for some reason just contains a lot of bad acting, some weird driving and a lot of planets exploding along with ridiculous explosions with overdone sound effects that were found on the internet.
In a galaxy not too far from our own, a star has exploded, and the resulting blast of radiation is hurtling towards Earth.
Now it’s up to one daring astrophysicist to create a shield that will protect the planet from imminent destruction.

It was interesting how they got into the thoughts of the serial killer.
This just wasn’t a guy with a knife killing teens in the woods.
Technically this indie movie was as good as any Hollywood film.
There are some nice kills in the movie and Basement Jack is definitely as cool as Jason, Michael and Freddy!!.

You don’t really stumble upon many riveting, independent, sci-fi films that look brilliant (let alone, don’t contain aliens and space magic) and capture major emotional themes successfully.
Moon accomplishes this, and with very little CGI at that.
Sam Bell is an astronaut working for a corporation on the far side of the moon.
His job? Maintaining a lunar facility and the automated machines which are harvesting the moon’s surface for Helium 3.
The harvested material is then sent back to Earth to use as energy.
Sam is on the very last leg of a three year contract and is quite anxious to return to his wife and daughter.
Barring any incidents, Sam will be able to leave his solitude.
But something does go wrong ….

Following the short animated film, Harvey Krumpet, director Adam Elliot has constructed his first full feature claymation picture, displaying as much skill as many of the major mainstream studios.
The film has been immaculately designed, with many tiny details and features placed into the sets, all of which would have taken many countless hours to mould.
The lighting and colour scheme too are significant to the unique look of the film, ranging from highly saturated to almost entirely black and white, to reflect the self-depreciative and sometimes gloomy tone of the narrative.
It is a film made of great patience and craftsmanship.
It’s an intriguing tale, starting in the mid seventies, of the ongoing true friendship of two long distance pen-pals, younger Mary in rural Australia and older Max in the rat-race of New York City.
A significant element of the story involves Max’s experience of living with Asperger Syndrome, knowing painfully full well that he senses the world in a radically different way to most.
It’s a genuine celebration of the value of difference.
It is a simple tale of pen-friendship between two very different people; Mary Dinkle, living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia and New Yorker Max Horovitz. Spanning 20 years and 2 continents, Mary and Max’s friendship survives much more than the average diet of life’s ups and downs.

Don and Janna’s relationship has been on the verge of collapse since the death of their daughter, and they’re trying to reconnect with each other through role playing, so each evening they pretend they’re meeting for the first time on a blind date after discovering one another through personal ads.

The genius, center, heart, and terror of this film lie in the realism of the performances.
The actors who portray the couple are so convincing and so natural, you feel as if you are watching an actual homemade video.
They do not follow the usual “shaky-cam movie” model of acting in which the performances often try so hard to be “real” that they are over-done and come off as a cheap imitation of as what is assumed would be somebody else’s reaction to that scenario. Contrary-wise, we believe as an audience, that “Paranormal”’s characters are true to themselves, and the decisions they make and the things they say are true expressions of how the actors themselves would feel if they had been placed in the same situation.
Thus, instead of feeling like you are watching actors in a movie portraying someone else, you feel as if are watching two actual people in an actual haunting scenario.
You recognize that everything they say and do would be an actual reaction you could imagine yourself giving in response to that scenario.
This produces an extremely uneasy effect in which you cannot escape out of their terror-filled world because you feel, yourself, that you are in it.
There-in lies the key to this brilliant film.
After a young, middle class couple moves into a suburban ’starter’ tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night.
Especially when they sleep.
Or try to.
