Eagle Eye

Eagle Eye is a well-paced, action-packed popcorn movie up at the same level as most of Shia LeBouf’s other movies.

It had just enough mystery to keep a intellectual interest throughout the explosions, horrific deaths (though, of course, the rating meant they were off-screen), and originally awkward interaction between the two main characters.

While an attentive viewer will guess most of the “surprises” before they are revealed, the question as to how the movie will ultimately end makes up for any disappointment.

The acting was better than expected, the storyline as original as it could hope to be, and, all in all, it is certainly a movie I suggest to fans of action, Shia, or government conspiracies.

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) returns home after the mysterious death of his successful twin brother.

He and a single mother, Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), find out that they have been framed as terrorists, and they are threatened into becoming members of a cell tasked to assassinate a politician.

Righteous Kill

b

It is what you would expect from Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

They’ve been doing these kind of roles for the past 30 years of their acting life.

The film itself was not a blast.

Totally predictable plot, stereotype good cop bad cop, drug dealers, bad neighborhood were huge minus to this movie.

Lack of character development made the film implausible and some parts inconvicible no matter how great the acting was.

Finally, the director’s abuse of dramatic music without much happening throughout the film slowly eats away your patience. ;)

Two veteran New York City detectives (De Niro and Pacino) work to identify the possible connection between a recent murder and a case they believe they solved years ago; is there a serial killer on the loose, and did they perhaps put the wrong person behind bars?

The Happening

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

posterLet’s get one thing out of the way- “The Happening” is unbelievably, impossibly, ridiculously, hilariously, inconceivably bad.

“The Happening” starts out well but ends up being an absolute embarrassment.

I was prepared for a mediocre offering, I was not expecting a disaster on the level of “The Happening”.

Its last forty minutes and especially its last ten minutes or so are among the worst I have seen in a long time.

Have you ever wondered if it was possible for a film to go from enjoyable to absolutely horrendous in the space of ten or fifteen minutes?

“The Happening” is proof that it can, pardon the (intentional) pun, happen.

People start to get confused in Central Park, repeating their words, standing still and sometimes walking backwards.

We hear a few screams. A woman (Alison Folland) reading on a bench takes her silver chopstick-style hair pin out of her hair and stabs herself in the neck with it.

Meanwhile on a building site, workers on the ground are chatting when all of a sudden a body falls.

National Treasure: Book of Secrets

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Safe fun entertainment where people don’t get killed, just cars and so forth.

The thrills and chills are little less potent, the jokes a bit too cute, and Ed Harris’ character is a little ambiguous by the end as if Harris is getting a little tired of the stereotype he has played in movie after movie.

There is some drama, though perhaps not enough and the funny comedy doesn’t always seem to balance the adventure aspect.

Overall, though the movie was enjoyable, fun, a thrill ride if not completely transporting into the Indiana Jones realm.

Boring it was not, but a bit manipulative, not as edgy, not as dramatic as it could have been.

When a missing page from the diary of John Wilkes Booth surfaces, Ben’s great-great grandfather is suddenly implicated as a key conspirator in Abraham Lincoln’s death.

Determined to prove his ancestor’s innocence, Ben follows an international chain of clues that takes him on a chase from Paris to London and ultimately back to America.

The Eye

Friday, February 8th, 2008

This here is a scary movie, it’s an Asian remake of a film released back in 2002 named Gin gwai.

The low budget scares in this one get old, very quick.

It is a film which tries too hard and doesn’t get anywhere, it has shots of long empty hallways, some other folk have also told us; it doesn’t look like a horror nor a remake either.

A young, blind violinist is given the chance to see for the first time since childhood through a miraculous corneal transplant, but as she adjusts to a dizzying new world of colors and shapes, she is haunted by frightening visions of death itself capturing the doomed and dragging them away from the world of the living.

Terrorized and on the brink of insanity, she must discover whose eyes she has inherited, and what secret visions they have held. :)

The Bourne Supremacy

Friday, June 1st, 2007

The acting was close to brilliant in my opinion.

I don’t think the casting for Jason Bourne gets any better than Matt Damon because he fits the part perfectly.

The rest of the cast all pretty much played their parts well, so I am pleased to announce that there aren’t any exceptionally bad actors or actresses.

In addition of the immersive storyline, it created a much enjoyable film.

For a sequel, this actually surprised me because I enjoyed this movie as much as I did the first.

If you liked the first movie, then you’ll most likely be very pleased with the conclusion.

When a Chinese vice-premier is executed by notorious assassin Jason Bourne, it causes serious trouble and hubbub in the CIA. Why?

There is no “Jason Bourne”, as that name is just a cover for CIA agent David Webb (Damon), so it appears that someone has taken the “Bourne identity” (get it?) away from him, creating a diplomatic crisis between the U.S.A. and China.

It’s up to the real “Bourne” to find out who’s behind this ruse, and hopefully return peace to the two nations before they go to war over it.

Hot Fuzz

Sunday, April 1st, 2007

Hot Fuzz is a brilliant new Britsh comedy that really hits its mark!!!

Hands down this fantastic film is the new benchmark in British comedies!

Simon Pegg throws you into the extremely tongue in cheek narrative with its quick pace edits, booming sounds and terrific camera work that we have come to expect from Edgar Wright since Shaun of the Dead. Simon Pegg has really exceeded my expectations and credit must also go to Nick Frost who plays the classic sidekick which he accomplishes so well.

Nicholas Angel is the finest cop London has to offer, with an arrest record 400% higher than any other officer on the force.

He’s so good, he makes everyone else look bad, as a result, Angel’s superiors send him to a place where his talents won’t be quite so embarrassing - the sleepy and seemingly crime-free village of Sandford.

Once there, he is partnered with the well-meaning but overeager police officer Danny Butterman.

The son of amiable Police Chief Frank Butterman, Danny is a huge action movie fan and believes his new big-city partner might just be a real-life “bad boy”.
