Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

10 Jun

This might just be one of the best movies we’ve seen so far this summer.

We really enjoyed this film, Prince of Persia offers the audience the best escape from the summer heat.

Filled with humor, romance, and adventure Prince of Persia is what the summer should be about at the movies. Pure Escapism from the troubles of our daily world.

It was definitely better than it had any right to be and while there isn’t much competition, it is definitely the best video game movie.

The cast was great, Gyllenhaal brought this great charisma and persona to the role and the fact the he did most of his own stunts is nice to see.

Arterton was very good as well and unlike in most movies like this her character played more than just the stand in pretty girl.

Kingsley was as well great and played the part perfectly, and finally the much talked about Molina; he was well great as well.

The story line was a clichéd yet interesting one and very easy to follow.

The action scenes were immensely entertaining and the effects were great at times and not so great looking at others.

The cinematography and just some of the shots of the area were downright super but some of the set pieces looked like they were too fake and didn’t fit in with the background.

The movie was fun, gave us a laugh here and there, gave us some sleep urges in the middle but nothing too slow.

The amount of action definitely keeps it going, this is similar to the mummy and the new clash of the titans.

Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films present “Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time,” an epic action-adventure set in the mystical lands of Persia.

A rogue prince named Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time—a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall

19 Oct

After Tom Hurndall is shot in the head in Gaza, his parents Anthony and Jocelyn arrive in Israel wanting to know how it could have happened.

They expect sympathy and co-operation from the Israeli authorities, but are instead met with an official explanation that fails to tally with  eye-witness accounts, and a wall of silence.

When an Israeli army report attempts to whitewash the incident, the Hurndalls decide the only way to establish the truth is to launch their own investigation into the shooting, a process which brings them face to face with both the Open-Fire regulations of the Israeli army in Gaza, and the soldier who pulled the trigger.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

22 Sep

Visually, this is perhaps one of the most spectacular animated movies we’ve ever seen, with literally every frame being a feast for the eyes.

There were moments, especially throughout the movie’s undeniably thrilling climax, in which we were just amazed.

Not to throw in so much hyperbole, but this truly is one of the best animated films in terms of pure eye candy. :P

This should be a movie you should watch in theaters because it’s unlike any movie you have ever seen.

There’s a lot of ingenuity and inventiveness and cleverness that is warped around the movie.

The film is entertaining for both the kids and the adults to enjoy, so there’s no need to worry. ;)

If you have the chance to see this in 3D, see it but we’re sure the 2D version works just as well.

If you’re iffy about the trailer, that’s a good thing because the movie surpasses the trailer by ten times.

Prepare to get served…literally.

Inspired by the beloved children’s book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain.

Bill Hader will voice Flint Lockwood, a young inventor who dreams of creating something that will improve everyone’s life.

Anna Faris takes on the role of Sam Sparks, a weathergirl covering the phenomenon who hides her intelligence behind a perky exterior.

James Caan plays Tim Lockwood, Flint’s technophobic father.

Andy Samberg plays Brent, the town bully who has plagued Flint since childhood.

Bruce Campbell plays Mayor Shelbourne, who figures out that Flint’s invention can put the town, and more importantly himself, on the map.

Mr. T plays the by-the-rules town cop Earl Devereaux, and Tracy Morgan takes on the role of Earl’s rule-breaking son, Cal.

this is your popcorn hour! ;) magic

500 Days Of Summer

19 Sep

Let’s face it.

We’ve all done our share of “dumping”.

Whether it’s the, “Lets just be friends,” or the all too familiar, “It’s not you, it’s me,” tactic, as long as you’re not on the receiving end it becomes a question of, “How quickly can I get this over with, so I can move on with my life?”

Equally, all of us have experienced what it feels like to “be” dumped and the complex emotions that unexpectedly follow.

If you’re one of the fortunate souls that have managed to escape the throws of relationship hell, you’ll probably fare better with renting the newest addition to the Rambo series. ;)

For the rest of you who’ve at one time or another gotten your hearts ripped out of your chests and stomped into a million pieces only to turn you into unshaven, alcoholic hermits on the brink of starvation…this movie is dedicated to you. :P

After it looks as if she’s left his life for good this time, Tom Hansen reflects back on the just over one year that he knew Summer Finn.

Despite being physically average in almost every respect, Summer had always attracted the attention of men, Tom included.

For Tom, it was love at first sight when she walked into the greeting card company where he worked, she the new administrative assistant.

Soon, Tom knew that Summer was the woman with whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life.

Although Summer did not believe in relationships or boyfriends – in her assertion, real life will always ultimately get in the way – Tom and Summer became more than just friends.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

09 Aug

Most of us here were probably fans of the G.I Joe toys when we were kids (back then they where called Action Force) so we had a good idea of the characters and story before hand.

This film stayed true to most of the original concepts with a few tweaks for the better here and there.

It’s a fun action film full of special effects and doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Don’t see this film if you are an uptight, unhappy film critic that spends too much time highlighting plot holes and acting because that’s not what this film is about!!

It’s more of a roller-coaster ride. Fast, furious and just fun.

Director Stephen Sommers (The Mummy) adapts the beloved Hasbro G.I. Joe toy line with this Paramount Pictures production that pits the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity against the evil forces of the organization known as Cobra.

Dennis Quaid and Channing Tatum star as General Hawk and Duke Hauser, respectively, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marlon Wayans leading the rest of the cast, including Sienna Miller, Ray Park, Rachel Nichols, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Asian film star Lee Byung-hun.

See! its all fun ;) magic

Trailer Park Of Terror

05 Aug

Don’t listen to all of the super low ratings for this film, of course you can’t really compare it to bigger budget horror/comedies, it’s no Shaun of the Dead by any means but this movie has it’s shining moments … and there are definitely more than a few ;)

The movie starts extremely strong of course the biggest factor that can determine whether a movie in this genre is good or bad is the script.

There’s a lot of one-liners in this movie and they are pretty clever, you’ll find yourself laughing practically through the whole film, and not at things the filmmaker’s didn’t mean to be funny either.

If you’re a die hard horror fan, this movie is right up your alley.

There is enough blood to satisfy your appetite… and for fans of dark comedies, you’ll enjoy it as well – its good all round then!!

Based on the Imperium Comics series, Trailer Park of Terror.

Six troubled high school students and their chaperon, an optimistic youth ministries Pastor, return from an outdoor characterbuilding retreat in the mountains.

During a raging storm, their bus crashes, hopelessly stranding them in the middle of the Trucker’sTriangle, a forgotten locus of consummate evil in the middle of nowhere.

The hapless group seeks shelter for the night in a seemingly abandoned trailer park they find down the road.

However, when the sun sets, it’s not refuge they find.

Instead, terror finds them in the form of Norma, a damned redneck reaper with a killer body who dispenses vengeance and death aided by her cursed companions, a bloodthirsty brood of Undead trailer trash.

Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen

27 Jun

Firstly, the action scenes and visual effects are great, and the addition of new “hip” auto-bots is good for young viewers (not anyone else though), but unfortunately you only really see any action until the last half, and then its still separated by unnecessary and tiresome romantic scenes.

The action scenes become tiresome with large amounts of 300 style slow-mo and an obvious intention of Michael Bay to show everyone how great his visual effects are, as well as Megan Fox’s boobs.

Great Mr.Bay, we can see that, just give us a good film. :)

Deception forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky prisoner, after the young hero learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers.

Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an American science fiction action film which is the sequel to 2007’s Transformers, which was the first live action Transformers film.

Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg return respectively as director and executive producer!

The Taking Of Pelham

08 Jun

Short on actual plot, expecting more of a character driven movie and early on it appears to go in that direction.

The rest is all action, car crashes and shoot-outs take place, the car crashes coming within a sloppy scene where the police travel by motorcade to deliver the money and the shoot-out starting from a rat crawling up a guy’s leg of all things.

Both feature no important characters and situations that are manipulated.

The finale comes before you know it,  ;) a chase through the streets of NY that’s more exciting because it makes more sense… , and Tony Scott, despite using clichés like counting down the clock and going into slow-motion, keeps the movie gritty and fast-paced. – super! ;)

Denzel Washington stars as New York City subway dispatcher Walter Garber, whose ordinary day is thrown into chaos by an audacious crime: the hijacking of a subway train.

John Travolta stars as Ryder, the criminal mastermind who, as leader of a highly-armed gang of four, threatens to execute the train’s passengers unless a large ransom is paid within one hour.

As the tension mounts beneath his feet, Garber employs his vast knowledge of the subway system in a battle to outwit Ryder and save the hostages.

Land of the Lost

07 Jun

Although the entire film looks like it needed a lot less green screened effects, there is still plenty of obvious effort put into the creatures that show up during the film.

The showpiece of a Tyrannosaurus Rex is incredibly detailed, and downright terrifying in some instances.

It is not the game changer like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park was sixteen years ago, but it still looks relatively magnificent. ;)

The makeup effects to bring the ape/human hybrids and Sleestaks to life are just as good, if not better.

There’s plenty of reviews that are disappointing but judge for yourself!

Will Ferrell stars as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall, sucked into one and spat back through time.

Now, Marshall has no weapons, few skills and questionable smarts to survive in an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures from beyond our world–a place of spectacular sights and super-scaled comedy known as the Land of the Lost.

Sucked alongside him for the adventure are crack-smart research assistant Holly (Anna Friel) and a redneck survivalist (Danny McBride) named Will.

Chased by T. rex and stalked by painfully slow reptiles known as Sleestaks, Marshall, Will and Holly must rely on their only ally; a primate called Chaka (Jorma Taccone) to navigate out of the hybrid dimension.
