posterVin Diesel is a soldier of fortune who is hired by a Russian money man and fixer to take a young woman (and her surrogate mother played by Michelle Yoeh) from a monastery in one of the Russian Republics to New York in 6 days.

Much of the world is in chaos and the borders are well protected and getting through the check points isn’t easy

Complicating matters is a squad of men shadowing the trio who are looking to take custody of the young woman for themselves.

As it stands now, assuming you can forgive its numerous flaws, its a good (barely) little science fiction actioner that has signs and scenes of greatness.

Worth a look! Enjoy! ;) magic

Death Race

Sunday, August 31st, 2008

Set in an “Escape From New York”-style dystopic prison-culture (that sounds suspiciously like current American society), slaughter happens, stuff blows up, and the weak are culled like bunnies caught in the headlights of gas-sucking American muscle cars.

Jason Statham does his standard tough-guy job as the scowling Frankenstein, Joan Allen plays a ball-busting warden (perhaps a bit in the mold of Louise Fletcher’s Nurse Ratched), and Ian McShane of “Deadwood” has a solid cameo as the prison-wise mechanic, Coach.

Even Machine Gun Joe gets a new incarnation in the form of Tyrese Gibson, who thankfully is nothing like Stallone’s blustering Italian meatball.

enjoy! ;) magic

The Dark Knight

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

I was completely blown away! :)

This isn’t just the best Batman movie ever made, this is one of the best movie ever made.

Everything in this film is excellent, not one piece of annoyance.

Bale marvels as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Ledger has made The Joker in to an iconic movie villain.

His performance belongs there at the top with Hopkins Lecter.

The Joker has finally been portrait properly on film, he has earned his place between the big boys in movie villandom.

This is the true Joker every Batman fan knows, loves and fears.

Ledger deserves any and every movie award known to man for this brilliant display.

Nolan has made his “I will always be remembered” movie, this is the crownjewel in his portfolio. Perfect directing, perfect story, perfect balance between action and drama, everything is perfect.

Even if you hate Batman, you will love this film.

If you don’t, then something beez wrongz with youz! :)

Batman and James Gordon join forces with Gotham’s new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, to take on a psychotic bank robber known as The Joker, whilst other forces plot against them, and Joker’s crimes grow more and more deadly.

Have fun! ;) magic

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

Yes mulder and Scully are back…

They’ve left aliens and UFO’s back in the basement!

This is a fresh spin on what we loved about the series with some new dark undertones, that make’s us question what we believe is faith, God and the notion of redemption.

The film itself is less action driven/CGI heavy than the first one, which i liked only because it allowed us to understand and follow our favorite duo, investigating and expanding their relationship, to greater horizons.

The performance of both David and also Gillian are compelling and dramatic, making us feel for them as they carry baggage from the choices they have made.

The supernatural thriller is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show’s most acclaimed and beloved episodes, and takes the always-complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions.

Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder’s pursuits.

The Mutant Chronicles

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

The storyline is okay, but the action is really what this movie is all about.

The scenes when they go underground can get repetitive, and somewhat confusing.

It does drag a little bit underground.

There is action in between though, along with some stuff that would never happen (I know its action/fantasy) but it took me out of the movie a few times, thinking “oh really, that just happened..”.

Anyway, it’s got a lot of violence, gore and shooting.

Cool looking mutants, bombs, etc.

For an action movie, not bad, but could have been way better.

Have fun! ;) magic

Cloverfield

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Simply put, the film is an amazing piece of work.

It also opens up with no credits where as other films do.

Did you know:- that it’s shot entirely with hand-held cameras.

The characters also run :) .

You will either love the way its been shot, as there is lots of running in this, you may hate it too, :) .

Some folk who suffer from siezers due to flashing light; might want to turn away when viewing some parts. It also will anger those who need all the details. Highly recommended though! :)

Did you know: In the USA this film is also known as:
1-18-08 (USA) (promotional title), Cheese (USA) , Clover (USA), Monstrous (USA), (promotional title), Slusho (USA), Untitled J.J. Abrams Project (USA) - full of surprises so we are here at ET :)

Meet the Robinsons

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

An intriguing storyline revolves around orphan Lewis who, as a 12-year old, is an up-and-coming inventor, and dreams of building a time machine to find out who his mother was.

He meets a mysterious boy Wilbur Robinson who tries to save him from the equally mysterious man with the bowler hat.

We are then drawn into a time travel story that, while having as many paradoxes as Back To The Future, ends with some interesting plot twists.

There is also a 3D version movie  - and while there were a few “especially for 3D” visual effects, such as flying food - the 3D was not overdone and did not detract from the story.

enjoy! ;) magic!
