The Ugly Truth

28 Sep

What a fun movie! Don’t pay attention to the critics – they need to just go and enjoy a movie sometimes.

If you don’t like crude, sexist humor, then don’t go see this movie.

However, if you can relax and just go watch a movie, then you will enjoy this one.

This movie delivers everything you expect from a romantic comedy!

Dozens of fun scenes and a good chemistry between Buttler and Heigel. Lots of jokes: adult and universal.

And Heigel’s character is so real with all those issues about the relationships and frankly vulnerability.

Of course, life is much more complicated but leaving the theater you feel yourself happy and mighty in the questions of fascination.

Thanks to the writers, the story doesn’t fall in dynamics and doesn’t bore you until the credits.

A romantically challenged morning show producer is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love.

His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result.

The Thaw

25 Sep

Even though the movie as a whole isn’t really awesomely smashing in any way, the first thing that really struck me is how well done and thought out it all is.

It features realistic portrayals of human behavior all the way through; from phobias, realistic explanations of how they came to the conclusions they did, to a person using a multimeter and electrical tape to actually fix something ike a real person might.

The Thaw offers more suspense than it does horror, though there are some jumpy and/or gory moments.

The CGI bugs are just convincing enough, and the other effects are good.

While the plot revolves largely around Kilmer’s character, he doesn’t get very much screen time.

However the other actors were engaging enough that we didn’t find myself missing him all that much.

The story starts with Kilmer and his team, beginning the movie’s more mysterious element.

It then switches to the students for their rather straightforward horror-genre struggle against the bugs.

The Kilmer part of the story is revisited in the end, to wrap up the mystery with a twist.

Having the mystery lingering in the background was a nice touch, as it added some extra intrigue to carry the movie.

At a remote Arctic research station, four ecology students discover the real horror of global warming is not the melting ice, but what’s frozen within it.

A prehistoric parasite is released from the carcass of a Woolly Mammoth upon the unsuspecting students who are forced to quarantine and make necessary sacrifices, or risk infecting the rest of the world.

The Dark Lurking

20 Sep

Something has gone terribly wrong at research station 320, a secret research facility one mile beneath the earth’s surface.

All communications are gone, all means of escape destroyed and an extremely dangerous horde of rapidly mutating ancient flesh eating creatures are consuming everything in their path.

Eight survivors of the outpost, two research subjects, three mercenaries, two research technicians and a medic barricade themselves inside a remote area of the facility with little food, almost no means of defense and little hope of rescue.

Their one possible escape route is through thirteen levels of terror that will lead them to the surface.

One of them is not who they seem to be, but the darkness itself which has taken human form.

The Final Destination 2009

03 Sep

the-final-destination-poster-bigTo top its predecessors, this installment had its introductory big scene set in stock car racing, which is the perfect avenue for a hundred and one things to go wrong, and when they do, have thousands of potential victims to pick off from.

While the very first movie had a spectacular, and some say too realistic for good taste in having witness from within a plane break up and explode upon take-off, this one had an adrenaline pumping race that got enhanced thanks to the latest gimmick in town… 3D.

The movie starts off pretty good, the premonition sequence works fantastically with the 3D, even though it’s not as good as part two’s brilliant car pile-up.

This film also contains the most ironic and funniest death scene in the whole series but since everyone knows that people go watch these movies for the death scenes, we’ll keep quiet.

One paradoxical thing we should say is that the death scenes in here are more for quantity than quality, which is quite unfortunate, but these deaths work really well with the 3D.

On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him.

When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave…escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality.

Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning…. very nice!

Audie and the Wolf

23 Aug

Murder, rollicking romance, and phenomenal comedic performances by the sultry Christa Campbell, the legendary Rance Howard.

Richard Riehle, is also starring with this  outrageously talented ensemble cast of newcomers.

Audie and The Wolf delivers a 1970’s style, red-hot rock-and-roll score by composer Karl Preusser.

Featuring Derek Hughes as the hapless John Doe, a man who doesn’t know where he came from, who can’t control his insatiable hunger for raw meat, much to the dismay of everyone who rings the doorbell. very nice ;)

That is, until he meets the smart-ass grocery delivery girl Audie Bantam who falls head over heels in love with him and fights to convince him he’s not a werewolf.

The Collector

14 Aug

The Collector was a very suspenseful movie until the ending, which was kind of disappointing.

But besides that, the movie was great as a whole, sure, there were some bad parts that should have been fixed, but that is part of a scary movie genre.

At some point, the saw creators need to learn how to end the movie, but if you can survive with a mostly bad, but part good ending, we would suggest seeing it.

The acting, traps, and being in a house that is completely dark is a good premise for the movie, and it works very well for the most part.

If you are a person who wants a perfect ending, do not see it then.

You will be disappointed.

But otherwise, besides a few parts, it was a pretty intense film. :)

For handyman and ex-con Arkin, a quiet home and a family on vacation is an “opportunity”.

Inside the house lies a jeweler’s safe, and inside the safe is a gem – his only hope for repaying a debt to his ex-wife and keeping what’s left of his family intact.

Unfortunately for Arkin, inside the house is also a box containing the latest addition to a collection catalogued in blood, bone and tears.

As the seconds tick down to midnight, Arkin becomes a reluctant hero trapped by a masked “Collector” in a maze of lethal invention – the Spanish Inquisition as imagined by Rube Goldberg – while trying to rescue the very family he came to rob.

From Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the twisted minds behind “Saw IV”, “V” and the upcoming “Saw VI”, “The Collector” emerges as a real-time game of cat-and-mouse, melding primal horror with suspense thriller.

The Crypt

12 Aug

There’s nothing spectacular about this low-budget horror film, but it somehow ends up being a lot more entertaining than it has any right to be.

The plot is incredibly light for its hour and twenty minute running time, so there are an excessive amount of “girls crawling through crypt corridor” scenes.

The director doesn’t skip ahead, even when the thieves are backtracking through areas we’ve already seen, and those sequences can get dull.

If you like cleavage, plenty is on display.

A bit more cleavage than gore, perhaps unfortunately. :P

The sets are pretty incredible, if obviously too new to be built during the Great Depression, and unlike most low budget films they are actually lit very well.

In fact sometimes the crypt corridors are a bit too bright – I think a little bit of darkness might have made for a scarier mood.

Six young criminals break into hidden catacombs underneath their town and attempt to steal jewelry buried from the “Great Depression” only to find inhabitants guarding the precious belongings.

After being trapped in this dark maze of crypts the group tries to escape alive.

The Informers

11 Aug

Interesting film, well edited, well acted, well shot.

Maybe the score was a bit basic, but the soundtrack was ironic and captured the superficial spirit of the period.

Amazing performances from all the actors.

The film could have been fleshed out a little more, after seeing it, the film has a lingering quality.

Anyway, it’s a pretty cool movie but it could have been longer.

Check this movie out. It is pretty cool. ;)

A multi-strand narrative set in early 1980’s Los Angeles, centered on an array of characters who represent both the top of the heap (a Hollywood dream merchant, a dissolute rock star, an aging newscaster) and the bottom (a voyeuristic doorman, an amoral ex-con).

Connecting the intertwining strands are a group of beautiful, blonde young men and women who sleep all day and party all night, doing drugs — and one another –with abandon, never realizing that they are dancing on the edge of a volcano.

sounds a bit like me! ;) magic
