Eagle Eye

Eagle Eye is a well-paced, action-packed popcorn movie up at the same level as most of Shia LeBouf’s other movies.

It had just enough mystery to keep a intellectual interest throughout the explosions, horrific deaths (though, of course, the rating meant they were off-screen), and originally awkward interaction between the two main characters.

While an attentive viewer will guess most of the “surprises” before they are revealed, the question as to how the movie will ultimately end makes up for any disappointment.

The acting was better than expected, the storyline as original as it could hope to be, and, all in all, it is certainly a movie I suggest to fans of action, Shia, or government conspiracies.

Jerry Shaw (Shia LaBeouf) returns home after the mysterious death of his successful twin brother.

He and a single mother, Rachel Holloman (Michelle Monaghan), find out that they have been framed as terrorists, and they are threatened into becoming members of a cell tasked to assassinate a politician.

Lost Boys: The Tribe

Monday, September 29th, 2008

This is not really a sequel to 1987’s The Lost Boys, it’s more of a spin off movie.

Unfortunately it’s been getting a lot of bad reviews, and admittedly it could have been better, but that’s not to say it hasn’t any good points.

It tried to be a lost boys movie, It tried to have the same feel and overall the movie successfully stays true with the cinematography but it ended up copying many of the events from the first one.

It takes a few events from the original mixes them up and writes some lines to glue them together.

The “Magic” isn’t there.

The story itself plodded along slowly for the first 40 or 50 minutes picking up as soon as Feldman Entered, in fact I cheered at the T.V when he appeared. ooohh yeahhh!! :)

enjoy! ;) magic

Daylight Robbery

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I would think that this film has been overshadowed probably due to The Bank Job being released only a couple of months previous.

There’s a bunch of familiar faces from films such as Lock Stock, Snatch, The Business etc and even a bloke from Eastenders. Your usual cockney lot.

That being said the acting is spot on and the dialogue is funny.

Gotta love low budget British films, there’s a hell of a lot more of them recently and its a welcome change to the usual big budget yankee tosh. :P

It is just a basic stick-up job with lots of shouting and screams at the beginning, some ludicrous device about how to get money out of a City of London bank (Sure banks have with some 70 million have no motion detectors…) in the middle, and an OK third part where it all goes wrong.

The Death and Life of Bobby Z

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

80f1.jpg

The movie is not totally horrible, as action films go.

The main problem is the many plot holes in the narrative that the creators probably didn’t count on, or thought their viewers wouldn’t figure out how the whole mess was going to turn out.

John Herzfeld directed the screen play by Bob Krakower and Allan Lawrence.

The credibility gap is huge when the people involved asks us to accept things that don’t make too much sense.

Tim Kearney, a San Quentin prisoner with an “impulse control” problem, expects to spend the rest of his life in jail, until the FBI makes him an offer he can’t refuse.

He can go free if he agrees to assume the identity of the late drug lord, Bobby Z, so the Feds can deliver him to a Mexican kingpin in exchange for a kidnapped agent.

100 Feet

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

The acting was really good, and it was great to see Famke Janssen in another horror movie, considering the last one she did (House on Haunted Hill) was nearly 10 years ago and Deep Rising :P .

She was believable, likable, but with a bitchy edge and made sure the vicious ghost wasn’t going to hurt her anymore.

Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick was also good as Famke’s young lover, and Bobby Cannavale nailed the role as the typical, tough NYC cop.

Michael Pare plays the ghost of the husband, and even though he’s CGI throughout most of the movie, he does a good job as the vicious, angry wife beating ghost. :P

A young woman, Marnie Watson, is granted early release from her prison sentence for manslaughter (killing her husband - a violent NYC cop - in self defense) on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home, effectively under house arrest, for the remainder of her sentence.

Her late husband’s partner keeps tabs on her from a patrol car parked across the street, hoping she’ll violate probation and he can send her back to prison.

Lakeview Terrace

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

So I have to be brutally honest here, I was mainly looking forward to see “Lakeview Terrace” because I really thought it was going to be awful.

It did look that way to me by the trailers. So when it started it went from good to getting better and better.

Now not saying that this movie does not have flaws, because IT DOES.

But it surprised me with its thematic elements, and really suspenseful scenes. :)

A young couple (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) has just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship.

This movie is magic except one thing!.

The cinematography is great, the acting is top-notch and the plot and storyline keep you guessing and on edge till the end.

The end is a terrible let down for an otherwise super production.

Its like they ran out of ideas and money at the same time or maybe there is a producer to blame. :P

I would definitely recommend watching this movie even with the poor ending.

Willem Dafoe plays an NYPD detective who grapples with a string of unusual serial murders, perpetrated by a killer who fashions himself an artist.

The detective investigates the brilliantly composed crime scenes, as he draws closer to a mystery that may end up implicating himself.

Bangkok Dangerous

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

http://www.releaselog.net/uploads/4450618a304e99aea8e8cb06995b469f.jpg

This is probably the worst movie to come out in years.

Production values of a junior high school 8 mm hand held.

Cage races through this with the look of a man trying to get off this set asap. ;)

It is an exaggeration to use the word plot, the screenplay has less suspense than watching somebody paint a fence.

The so called plot turns were painful to watch, and the “arty” grainy washed out look of this film was probably an attempt to save a few bucks by producers who belatedly realized they had been steering this overloaded barge onto the rocks.

I feel sorry for Nicolas Cage. :P

He is possibly the biggest victim of typecasting in Hollywood, and he does his best with the roles he is given but the odd film slips through the net, and sadly Bangkok Dangerous is one of them.

He is distinctly average in this and the performances of the supporting cast aren’t much better with the notable exception of Charlie Yeung, who delivers a fine performance as the love interest.

The movie is like Marmite, you’ll either love it or hate it.
